Just read your entire thread, a very enjoyable read.
Really like the subtle mods to the outside and a some nice goodies in the engine bay:-)

Also wonderful to see another largely standard car with just enough of a suspension drop and standard Speedlines - this is exactly what I plan with mine.

The prices of Corrados always seam to be all over the place. My most recent one was very much a lucky find but the owner told me he had three people before me arrive and just talk about stripping it to try and make a quick quid.

Christ that must have been scary!!
Have a look on ebay as there are usually people advertising car collection. As a rough guide I paid £40 to have a car moved 12miles so it shouldn't be too expensive for you. It's still a lot cheaper than if you try towing it and the wheel comes off causing even more damage.

Some of you may know of my other Corrado, a nugget yellow US import which I've been slowly* rebuilding over the last couple of years. Well it's been so long that even though my brother (Mr Ginge on here) has a Corrado VR6 I was suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
After suffering 16 months of driving a Citreon Xsara VTR which was a freebie from a relative I couldn't face life without a VW dub any longer.
So, I went out to look for a VW that would be sensible to run, reliable and something I could steadily restore/modify.
I found this:
First off the obligatory photo stop at the petrol station on the way home.
It's a 1994 VR6 is Dark Burgundy Pearl - although I must admit when I first bought it I wasn't 100% sure.
Previous owner had the car 12 years and commuted over 150miles a day so it's up to 182k now. Good news is though it had a brand new engine fitted by VW which along with all the other parts replaced at the same time cost of £8k !! It's also had a new clutch and flywheel and plenty of other service items in the recent past.
It's completely original with the exception of a custom stainless steel cat back exhaust, the owners justification was it was £100 less than what VW quoted ( yes the guy still had the car MOT'd etc at VW) Also and rather obvious are the wheels, the previous owner fitted those after cracking a Speedline and VW quoting £400+VAT for a new one!
Overall condition is the bodywork needs some attention but the interior , all heated leather is wonderful, everything apart from the sunroof works.
Still, there are plenty of things to do to bring this Corrado back to it's former glory and to help ensure it is a reliable daily. First things to were give it a more serious going over and make a list of items to replace, which ended up being a side of A4 - but nothing major.
Then the spending spree at CarParts for less/Euro Car parts/AVS and good old Ebay began.
The weather hasn't helped with the clean up at all but so far this week I have
- removed the awful amp kit and refitted OE stereo connectors and reinstalled the headunit.
- fixed the ashtray lid and release button
- fitted a Fisher CD holder.
- sorted out the sticky boot lock so it opens on the central locking again.
- organised the jack/spare wheel kit so it doesn't rattle
- booked it in for a extensive detailing session
- picked up some original Speedlines , now trying to decide on what colour. A mate is trying to convince me to polish them....
- fitted new blue expansion bottle lid
- purchased new coolant
- screwed the 6x9s down, I wasn't happy about the 6x9s but until i sort a new parcel shelf I at least one them screwed in and not rattling.
- cleaned the inner arches and fuel cap surround - literally scraping handfuls of mud and leaves out.
- removed half forest worth of leaves from the scuttle tray
- topped up the PAS fluid, brake fluid (although this will all be replaced soon) but some screen wash in.
- Fitted Osram Night Breaker plus uprated bulbs EVERYWHERE - we all know Corrad headlights suck.
- Whilst the headlights were out I began giving a few bits a clean before the rain came back to stop play

a few new bits
and stripping the old stuff, discs were nasty and the pads were kinda welded to them.
I was really surprised how easy the top mounts came off - a rarity given how many of the buggers i've done. The green springs are Weitec -30mm which will be going on Bilstein sport shocks
apart from the hubs & carriers most of this is scrap now, rest is going to be painted.
This is what happens to cars that sit around by the seaside - rust rust rust
Next on the list im now thinking new CV joints as well.
New steel brake flexis are on route from C&R, wheel bearings are ready to.
Once we have some more dry weather I will finish spraying all the inner arches and then begin rebuilding the front end.
After finishing the front its off with the exhaust, strip off the heat shields, finish painting the underside yellow and then get the back axle off before painting an refurb - new brake dust shields/wheel bearings/calipers/axle bushes etc.
rue, I have been sidetracked a fair bit recently doing a few weekends worth of work on Mike's Corrado - which now sports a few nice upgrades (il sort his thread seperately)
A few more bits nearly ready to go back on.
1) refurbed callipers, new slider pins, new rubber seals and pistons.
2) Goodridge stainless steel hoses all round
3) put the front suspension, weitec -30mm springs, new top mounts, hubs, new cv, gaitors, ball joints etc on
4) subframe, anti roll bar (standard for now an brush painted as it is getting replaced at a later date with a eibach)
I realise the picture quality is rubbish:-(
Planning on MOTing it with the standard exhaust and cat , then remove it all to replace with the 4 branch/straight through system...
Then to the rear I still need to
1) sort a new fuel pump bracket - going to try VW but expect il end up needing 2nd hand or make one
2) new fuel tank straps - proving hard to find!!!
3) finish some metal work & painting on the spare wheel well/back valence
What I have done is find all the parts except for a bonnet cable set up (I think) to complete the front end. New grill, my original G60 badge, a clean set of lights and the entire front end is now held together with polished bolts.
driver's wiring is nearly there, just need to attach new VW connectors
passenger also just needs final connector to do away with those horrible pin connectors
gave the wiper a spruce, most of the engine bay components have been sprayed the same colour/finish
rear suspension and brakes, new Bilstein shocks with weitec springs now black - for subtlety. I'm thinking of applying some kind of black sound deadening material to the inner arches to make them quieter and easier to clean... any suggestions?
finally, for anyone out there who has a early pre 1990 Corrado, can you check if your window rubbers look like this:
On a seperate note, I've also swapped my daily car from a Citroen Xsara 1.6 16v
to something that is more reliable, newer and cheaper to run. NOT
It's a VR6 8-)

I've done a few of them now and often it's easier to undo the UJ and take the column out giving you fine access to the ******* screw.

Nuggets are clearly the best ;-)
JMR , OCD - only charged dubs will do rebuilds and Jabbasport sell the full kit required if you fancy DIYing it.

dont get hung up on the power figures!
There is more to the G60 160hp than meets the eye, the g60 has very different gear ratios and the in gear acceleration times of standard cars isn't very different at all... the 0-60 on a G60 is let down because G60s 2nd gear gets to 54mph so an extra gear change is needed.
G60 - 30-50 3rd gear = 4.2s
VR6 - 30-50 3rd gear = 4.0s
G60 - 50-70 4th gear = 6.1s
Vr6 - 50-70 4th gear = 6.4s
The real ace up the VR6s sleeve is the 30-70 time of 5.7sec as it can be done in fewer gears but this time is PROPER quick even relative to todays fast cars
Other things to consider are the maintenance bills, people have already mentioned G60 chargers, well the truth is they are reliable if the maintenance is kept up. Far too many people have killed their charges by not replacing the charger belts and oil feed pipe, this is not the chargers fault!!! There are examples that have done considerably over 100k, some nearing 200k without rebuilds. Then at £400 for a rebuild once every 5-10 years depending on your mileage - what is the issue?
The VR6 has it's expenses to, worn piston rings or oval bores - a 2.9 bottom end will set you back as much as a G60 charger build. Cam chains and tensioners, well thats £400 and most people end up doing the clutch at the same time so rarely do have change from £800 if you are paying a garage to do the work.
Both engines respond well to tuning, a £200 Chip and pulley set up on a G60 brings the power up to 190ish hp (standard VR) but the G60 still weighs 1115kg, vs vr6 1240 kg (sourced from carfolio...) A Vr6 can be mapped and improved with a good filter/exhaust set up which can break the 200hp mark. Beyond that a VR6 gets a bit more expensive , headwork and cams are (double the cost of g60 8v items) the next step to start heading toward 220+. Likewise a G60 cam and headwork , injectors, 65mm pulley can see them beyond 220hp.
In terms of handling the G60 feels more nimble and does behave differently to a VR6 when turning in but the wider track of the vr6 makes it feel more planted at higher speeds or sweeping corners.
Other things to note though are that G60s tend to be older than Vr6 as there are far more early pre 91 spec G60s around. The early spec parts can be a lot harder to get hold of, things like wings, headlights especially where as by having a vr6 there are far more late models around which makes parts finding a bit easier. Also note that some interior parts are different to and some people prefer the later spec round heater controls and more rounded buttons than the early items which do look an feel older in comparision.
Best thing to do is drive both and if you are lucky drive a couple of examples of each, it would be unfair to compare a ropey VR to a healthy G60.

I don't suppose you have the fuel sensor that fits on the end of a bracket on the head next to the fuel rail? its a single spade connector on it.

Haha exactly, buy a Vr6 that needs it's cam chains replaced and/or a worn bottom end replacing and then a G60 rebuild is considered cheap ;-)

I really wanted a Recaro Office chair but when I last asked about it our Health & Safety officer said no -"it's too dangerous" because it didn't come from a H&S approved supplier aka rip off merchant.

Yep, just warm it up first and don't thrash it...That' s stating the bleeding obvious ;-) that applies to any engine. You can just as easily kill a 16v or a VR6 by thrashing it whilst cold.
It is worth considering that in the UK 125k miles is apparently high but in other countries that is considered quite low, if you look on VW Vortex and Fortitude you will see that there are quite a few guys running G60s with over 200km on them and some with over 300km some having had no rebuilds, others having had 2-3 - 7 so there is no exact science.
I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't be cautious as you should check the engine carefully and go on a test drive but don't convince yourself or others that simply because it is a charger that has not had a rebuild it will go BANG the moment you turn the key!

I do have 2 garages ,one full of parts and one has my bros mk2 polo bready in which is having a 16v afh conversion which relegated my corrado:-(
Once the corrado is finished I doubt it will see a night on the drive again!
Next few jobs this weekend are getting the back axle, calipers, tank straps ,backing plates powder coated and get some new bushes and brake pipes organised. Ideally I want the entire axle built off the car as it means less time on the drive.
Also want to start preparing the boot floor and rear arches for paint and seebwhat condition the heat shields are in. Thinking vht paint will work but also considering swapping the rattly metal for half inch thick heatproof sound deadening material- anyone done this??

^ I know exactly where you and Swompy are coming from in terms of the potential for it to end in disaster but it's like driving, if you drive like a twat you will likely get caught out. If you remain within "reasonable limits" you can enjoy riding without fearing for your life.
It is kind of lucky that the A&E is so close to the cycle centre if you do come off badly. Fortunately i have only ended up there once so far and that was as a result of working on my mates mk2 golf. I snapped a socket whilst undoing the gearbox which resulted in my finger being smashed into the box breaking it at a weird angle!

Best of luck, preparation is key. You need to find a balance between the right kit without going over board and looking like you are planning a trip for a month.
It's been over ten years since i ventured up Snowdon on foot and that was when i was probably at my peak fitness level and it was pretty tough, i'd done Pen y Fan previously and covered the breacons a few times for the DofE award.
If on the day you aren't feeling up to walking I hear you can take a Vauxhall Frontera , think it has been up and down a few times ;-)
Does anyone know if you can take a mountain bike on the train and ride back down???

^now that I can relate to, I picked up a vr6 recently which needs a few jobs but was* running perfectly other than a dodgy ignition switch. We all know that is pain in the ass of a job that is but after messing about I went to start the car only to find it's now running on 5 cylinders. Open the bonnet and it's like the coil pack is performing a fireworks display.
Im on the bus now until the weekend until more new parts arrive - sooooooooooo annoying.
On the plus side my brother's VR6 is running so i can still get a fix!!!!!
