give VW Heritage a call ask for Luke, he helped me get to the bottom of the VW-USA recall for a pressure reducer in the matrix feed hose you want a mk3 golf matrix as they had the pressure issue sorted on them part number 1H2819031A should be £24.09

only time i have removed one was when i fitted a daves16v short shifter in my VR but i cant recall the procedure you could try looking at the short shifter thread to see if that gives you a clue i dont remember it being difficult

i believe they do as i think they are generic part for late or early rado's i will be fitting one in my '90 valver this weekend & already have one in my VR

your description sounds normal for 12v VR6 i would say & i doubt it would get much quieter with new lifters

AFIK the tappets/lifters will always be more noisey when the engine is cold started as they are hydraulic. they are that way inherently by design i think i am pretty sure Stealth replaced mine during my head rebuild & the new ones were still loud ish until warmed up how is the noise once the engine is warm?

not had a chuftie for a while but this one raised a big smile after paying for vpower a returning to the valver the guy at the next pump was filling his aston martin & rained down praise on the old girl whilst saying he thinks the prices for them will rocket in the next 10 years made me chuckle to myself as i drove off too, it is a nice feeling when someone in a £80 odd grand aston loves your little corrado :D lol

sounds like it could be a ingress from the windscreen area i wouldnt say it was matrix as that is normally on passenger side

valver hit 180K on the way home last night - i really need to get the cam belt changed as i have no idea when it was done has anyone done a 1.8 16v cam belt themselves? is it a tough job or pretty straight forward? am thinking of trying to find a step by step guide

hi & welcome i am guessing by the mention of chains you have an SLC? wheel size & ride quality will depend on quite a few factors; wheel size, tire profile, suspension setup & age of running gear from my experience i found that changing all of the running gear produced a more 'cushioned' ride. new front wishbone & rear beam bushes make a real difference in the feel in your backside on the seat lol new drop links & other running gear help to bring back the sharp steering response etc i run KW V1's on my VR6 & love them. they really turn the car into a chuckable go kart BUT they can be a bit too hard on the crap UK roads. however, on smooth tarmac it feels sublime & they reward you in the twisties :D my VR is still on the standard 15" speedlines wrapped up all round in bridgestone RE002's at 205/50/15 - if i were to change wheels on the VR i wouldnt go above 16's on my 1.8 16v i have had the pleasure of running all 3 wheels sizes mentioned. when i 1st owned it it had standard 15's & as the standard suspension was in a better state back then i recall the ride being as many others would describe. when i brought it back, having sold it & parted for about 6 or 7 years, it had 17's on it - they were fecking awful! whoever put them on did not consider widths & offsets etc. they made the steering super heavy & very unresponsive/uncommunicative, plus they rubbed the inner arches. as such the ride was pretty awful i changed those out very quickly for some 16" BBS RX2's with a 195/45/16 tire on the front. i left the 205/50/16 tires on the back as i quite liked the tiny rake it gave & a bit of a hot rod feel to the back end i have so far only refreshed drop links & steering related parts so far. it runs on whatever suspension is in there (lol), stock i believe but who knows, & i am yet to change the front wishbone & rear beam bushes TBH it is a bit boat like, neh ferry like, compared to the VR but it is a lot less bumpy & much more sedate to drive. couple that with the fact i dont drive it with a heavy right foot, as i do the VR but then who can resist the sound result of a combination of VR6/BMC/2.5" straight through SS exhaust & plenty of gas lol, & it is a nice comfy ride so, it is horses for courses really as for the 'cool wheels' part - hopefully your son will learn quickly that the corrado itself gives him all of the super cool he is looking for & it doesnt need flashy wheels ;)

remembered the MOT was due on the VR this week - hopefully i can actually get her back next week with a fresh ticket at least i managed to keep her off the salty winter roads for the majority of the time this year lol

in all honesty Dox it is purely the guys attitude that sucks - the previous guy, ben, was awesome. a young lad that loved the rado & wanted to see it whenever i went there. i even took him out in the VR as he had never been in one but had always wanted to the first time i had to deal with the guy who replaced ben i only wanted some coolant hose tension clips which are a generic part - so to be greeted with 'im not going to find anything for that' before he had even looked on the system or asked what part i wanted was very annoying the second time he was insisting he couldnt find a part or any info without my VIN - which was complete crap as when i called main VW they got my VIN from my reg automatically hey ho i know not to bother with my local stealer now & ask Thursdave as he is much more helpful

i find that both local stealer & main UK VW are utter t***s!! (no offense Thursdave) they simply can not be arsed to look for info regarding old cars if the guy who works in the parts dept at my local stealer says to me one more time that he 'wont find anything on the system for a corrado' before he even looks at the damn system i swear i will bounce his head off the desk!!! Heritage on the other hand couldnt be happier to delve into things for you, in particular Luke was excellent when trying to find out about the coolant hose pressure reducer :)

IIRC you can buy new front wishbones that have bushes already in them some people use R32 bushes in front wishbones but make sur eyou use standard OE corrado rear beam bushes to retain the function it was designed for

hi graphite yes to the door seal being the one that goes round the inside of the aperture :) sorry my description wasnt the best - i meant the wiper stalk behind the steering wheel to turn wipers on/off. later rounded style, rather than early square. do you have late wings, what state are they like? pants, those coolant hose clips are blooming expensive from VW - wish id retained mine when stealth fitted the roose hoses

ha ha ha that was some misread i made lol i like your plan though - & ahhh strut bags, that is the ticket. be nice to see once it makes its way up the to-do list yes, often they build some odd things but they do some good stuff

indeed m8 - i think they are going to look nice i long for a set of autostrada modena's but i foolishly didnt buy the set that appeared on here a couple of years ago & when i have an occasional search now the prices are huge oooo air ride!!! is that a to-do or already done? i watch fast n loud quite a lot & they love air ride. as such i have pondered if a coilover & air ride combo could be done on a rado. i am sure i have seen them do it on a car they want to be able to go low but also retain the decent handling of a strut/spring setup

hopefully yes - i am edging on the air of caution until i have it back & done a few miles plus i need to take out a fair bit of the dash anyway as whoever put it back in at Stealth did not account for wanting to remove the stereo, as the wires have be routed so tight i cant even get my hand in behind the head unit to unplug the RCA leads

update on the VR i type this with some hesitation in my fingers BUT the VR had a successful test drive on friday last week with a matrix bypass in place & after a static warm up showed no signs of over-pressuring, with the exception of slightly hard coolant hoses, off she went on a test drive after a little open road running my mechanic said the idle stable issue was better & seemed to sort itself out, fingers crossed it idle's better on the next start up 4 pots were reported to be feeling good, though obviously need gentle bedding in, & thoughts are that they will be great once they can be lent on fully & most importantly no issues of over pressuring thus, fingers crossed still, it looks like it was the matrix letting go looks like the dash will be coming out of both the VR & the valver at some point soon then lol i did remember that VR mot is due in the next few days though so am hoping it gets a new ticket ok cant wait to get her back, bed the brakes in & hear that beautiful sound again :D
