1. Sad to say it but if the nugget doesn't get written off you will have trouble matching the paint. Yellow fades so badly. I was looking for a Toucan Yellow A3 but I gave up after I looked at four and it was obvious they had all had paint. Some were better matches than others but even one in an Audi dealer had a slightly different coloured wing. Good luck with the negotiations. Andy
2. Look at the tax disc holder or the key fob or the numberplates in my case :D
3. The long life service thing is just storing trouble for someone further down the line. My 1.8T will be three years old next week. It has had one oil change and nothing else. According to the drivers console it needs another service in 5,500 miles or 350 days. I will take it in when it tells me. It will have 38000 on the clock. Next summer I will be looking to change it and someone else gets to find out whether longlife oil is any good. Meanwhile I change the oil on my Corrado on my birthday which is approximately every five thousand miles.
4. Thanks Andy, I got stuck in today, managed to undo the mountings and jack the engine up. The bolts came indone without a struggle. I need some new bottom ball joint mountings and bolts but apart from that job done. Andy
5. My car is October 92. They announced the VR6 in July and I thought hmmm I'll get one after I come back from hols. Prior to that I was planning to get a G60. So i got a later dash but its still got a deeper spoiler. What are the other differences you are referring to? There can't be more tham a hundred VRs with the early dash.
6. Congratulations on your mega mileages.Talk about getting value for money. Wish I'd driven mine more. I'm only on 52,000. Andy
7. Thanks Andy It's a VR6. Access is not great. I'll have a go now. Perhaps I'd just had enough last night. Andy
8. Bump! Anyone got any advice?
9. Thanks. I'll be giving it some grief at the weekend
10. I din't think so. There's just the nut that holds the ball joint taper in place. I couldn't get the piece that does the pressing in place without it fouling the cv joint housing. I dismantled it to try and get it in place and then broke the casting. My cars a 92 VR6.In the end I took the three bolts off that adjust the camber but that means I will have to get the car tracked up when I've finished.
11. Any recommendations for a ball joint splitter? I bought a Clarkes one and I've broken it trying to get it on to the bottom ball joints. It was just too chunky to get in to place. I've got one of the cylinder ones with a bolt down the middle. That's fine for track rod ends but no good for the ball joints. Andy
12. Hi, I tend to do a lot of lurking rather than posting but now I need some advice. I've had a fun day doing the passenger's side wishbone bushes and now I need to do the drivers side. I know I need to drop the sump or raise the engine to get at the front bolt. How easy is it to get at the engine mounts? The front one seems to have three small nuts on the underside. Is it a case of just undoing them. I can get a socket on the single bolt from above but can't really get good leverage because there's some stuff belonging to the inlet manifold I'm worried about damaging. I'm not looking forward to this. The passengers side front bolt was siezed in but I got it out without it shearing. This one looks worse. Going for food and beer but will pick up your suggestions later. Andy
13. And has anyone tried these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Genuine-VW-Polo-Corrado-RetroFit-Aero-Wiper-Blades-/370103137154?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item562bddb382 I had a good look at the current TT today. The set up is different to the one on the late Mark ones Andy
14. At least silver doesn't show the muck. The R32 was a Golf. I thought it strange that he came off a roundabout at full bore, making a great noise, got up to 70 and then tucked in to the inside lane two cars in front of me. He followed a taxi for a couple of miles and then suddenly the car lit up like a Christmas tree. Luckily I was taking it easy because I'm on dodgy rubber (strange size, not bald). My wheels have just come back from a refurb and I haven't got around to putting them back on yet. :D
15. Dark blue K-plate VR6 on the M6 southbound near Keele services this morning? It was me! Went down to Rugby. I was blown away by an r32 on the Coventry bypass. Thought about giving chase but decided not to. It was my lucky day because a couple of miles later he put the blue lights on and pulled a taxi over. Andy
16. No disrespect but you're all getting carried away. Before the cam chains were done he had a car that worked. Dodgy water pumps and the like are all a distraction. It would have been dodgy too before the cam chains. If there is really a difference it must be as a result of the work carried out. Andy
17. Mine was sticking like yours and only moving an inch or so at a time. Then it went bang because one of the cables pulls away from the rubbish casting. There's lots of info about fixing it on here when that happens. It involves taking the roof lining down and the replacement parts are expensive. Cheaper to buy a complete mark III golf sunroof from ebay.
18. Am I selling? This week, no. But from time to time I do get tempted but only because I fancy trying something else. Then I realise I'd have to put a lot of money to what I might get for the Corrado before I'd have a car that was just as good. Andy
19. I think at 25K it's cheap. It just shows how much prices have come down. My VR6 had a list price of just under 21K in 1992. The Scirroco looks the part to me.I'd have one in that luminous green. Andy
20. Here's the other side of the coin. My car a VR6 is a one owner, me, and it's done 43,000. I bought it in Oct 92 on a K reg. The following year I got a job in a dodgty area so decided not to take the car with me. Then I got a company car. The Corrado spent a lot of time in my garage and didn't get much use but I didn't want to swap it. I used to take it to the dealers but since 97 I've been doing the servicing myself. I took some photo's of it Feb last year with 39K on the clock intending to put it on here but couldn't bring myself to part with it. I reckon realistically it's worth about 3.5K. Since new apart from filters and plugs and oil its had front tyres, worn out, rear tyres plasticized, new cables on the sunroof and last month new thermostat housing. At the moment the nearside rear brake calliper is dragging but that's it. There are young cars out there if you look hard enoughand find someone with their guard down. Andy
21. I'm suprised they are discontinued. I got the parts from VW last Autumn. There was a huge mark up. Mk III Golf parts are identical in shape but seem to be finished in black rather than chrome You'll have to take your roof lining down again Andy
22. I've got the car back together at last. The block was stained where the housing had cracked. I fitted a new low temp thermostat and put it all back together. I had a new leak from the black sensor. Luckily the local dealer had plenty of new seals in stock. I've flushed it all out and filled up and run it up to temp. I'll flush it out again and then then put the G12+ in. Oh, and I didn't pick it up fla. One careful owner from new. Me! Thanks for your help Andy
23. Cheers Fla, My mood has improved significantly! There's no mayo and the oil is nice and clean. Car has only done 45K. Even younger than yours! Thermostat housing looks favourite then. I'm £500 better off already! It will be an opportunity to flush things out properly too. I messed up some time ago when I replaced the G11 coolant. Since then its tended to run hot in summer so if the housing has got to come off it will allow me to get a hose pipe in there and see if I can shift some of the rubbish. I won't be able to do it this weekend cos I'm going away. I'll report back though when I get to the bottom of it. Andy I'll search the forum for advice on the thermostat and read my Bentley manual tonight and then order some bits from the Ford dealer on Monday!
24.

Hi, Problems this morning. I've noticed a small amount of fluid under the car over the last week or so. I cleaned the bottom half of the engine last night and went for a ride. Hoped I'd be able to see what was happening this morning. Well, this morning I've got a wet patch about 40 cm across under the car. Water level is down significantly and while I had the top of the header tank I could see that the water was dripping from somewhere below the distributor. There aren't any ancills below the distributor are there? Does that mean it's a blown head gasket? Any ideas guys? I suppose at this point I might as well ask if anyone has a garage recommendation in the Soth Manchester/ North Cheshire area Thanks for any help Andy
25. My 92 VR6 came with a Sony radio cd. I wanted a remote cd changer so the dealer swapped it for a Blaupunkt Canberra. It was one of the nightmare ones where the whole thing fitted into a cage and when you left the car you took the whole thing with you. Andy
