MLPVR6 0 Posted January 20, 2005 I have had my VR6 (90K miles) for nearly 6 months now and so far I have spent nearly £800 (excluding servicing) on fixing things  . What do people generally spend over the course of the year? Hopefully I have just had a bad few months! PS for the 2 years before c ownership I was wrapped in cotton wool a bit. My brand new MG ZR despite being a terrible car cost me a grand total of £350 for 2 services, oh and a bottle of anti-freeze.
coolrado 0 Posted January 20, 2005 but the ZR wasnt 10 years old though  probably cost me about 600quid including a charger rebuild as i do all maintainance and servicing myself
MLPVR6 0 Posted January 20, 2005 In fairness the bulk of it was £500 for a whole new exhaust which I knew needed replacing when I bought it. My justification is that the C shouldn't really depreciate and therefore costly maintenence is easier to swallow. The ZR managed to lose about 3k in the first year and 2k in the second year. That is what I tell the missus anyway.
Ford 0 Posted January 20, 2005 This could be a really interesting thread. I have spend well over £1000 in 6 months... but I see it more as a restoration project and trying to get the car how I want it (original and new looking). On servicing and up keep about £600 in 6 months - new engine mount, bearings etc. The rest is a new exhaust, mats, lights etc etc... That is what I tell the missus anyway. I did exactly the same, the old depreciation line...
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 20, 2005 Had mine 2 years and have probably spent about £6K on it. About £3K fixing/repairing/replacing and the rest on 'Stuff'
dr_mat 0 Posted January 20, 2005 I had a spreadsheet.. but I gave up updating it after I got scared..
davidwort 0 Posted January 20, 2005 One good thing about the valver is it's cheap to run, providing VAG isn't your first stop for everything. Even a complete set of bushings for the front and rear suspension and steering including ball joints set me back less than a hundred quid (providing you're a handy DIYer!) The most expensive item I've ever had to buy (non performance upgrade) was a PS pump and that was the same as a mk2 golf one, 120 quid new. When I factor in the depreciation of only 3-4 grand in 9 years (and now on 135,000 miles) it must be one of the best drivers cars per £ I could have invested in :D Just think, there must be some people who went for a Ford Probe over the Corrado, David. David Winter 0 Posted January 20, 2005 Ive had my Storm 3 years. Problems Ive encountered are. Coil pack. -Repaired with resin after seeing thread on this forum. Dry tensioner bearing.- removed re greased and sorted after seeing a thread on here. Theromostat housing leak. Replaced housing and thermostat after seeing a thread on here. intermitent imobiliser fault. You guessed it. Repaired after seeing Thread on here. Im no mechanic but there is so much imfo on here that it has enabled me not to get stung by the harsh labour charges and know that a job has been done properly. So in effect the forum has probably saved me a good £1000 pounds.

Not finished yet! Mot due but rough idle still there. Rear all over the place. New rear bushes, new plugs. Failed Mot!!!!!!! Brake pipes need done, front caliper sheared so needs replaced. Flexis need done AND........ rear shocks are leaking so need changed. No idea what the latest bill will be Any guesses???? Not my favorite car this month. Jim 2 Posted January 22, 2005 Hm... so far: Actual Repairs / Maintainance Full 20k service @ Stealth (with a few odd jobs done): £280 New CV joint & fuel pipe repair : £100 Sunroof : £80 parts and £150'ish labour Addons Replacement Infinity Basslink (old one died) : £130 Speedline Comp2's : £540'ish New Rubber : £200 To come rather soon *gulp* Charger rebuild VT Front mount refill, possibly replace others too Exhaust system regasket / possibly replace downpipe also Mocal.. possibly A little bodywork to tidy it up (start of some rust, a little scratch, etc) But considering the car is probably still worth what I paid for it, and the Citroen I bought lost £2300 in 11 months of ownership, seems like a fair price to pay for a car that still commands mega respect on the road and a fair amount of admiration and interest. I'd love to see how much i've spent on petrol so far though.. thats been pretty shocking to be honest. Modded G60 sir? 260 miles for every £48 you put in sir? Thankyou very much sir! :(
Guest Posted January 22, 2005 Got me thinking now: Full suspension rebuild, service, FK Konigsport, supercharger check, lots of other bits and pieces - £1600 Oil cooler and JMR / Miltek front pipe - £580 Cold air feed - £100 Wheels and tyres - £500 Other routine maintenance bits and pieces - £300ish Momo wheel and boss - £140 Oops about 3250 spent then
The Hub 0 Posted January 22, 2005 Do you guys really have to write in black and white what my wages will be spent on over the next couple of months/years!!!! But then again why the hell do we own Corrados???? The best cars in the world and well worth it!!!
Louie Lungbubble 0 Posted January 22, 2005 Was reading this nightmare thread thinking - "Ah well, I've spent nothing on mine in the year I've had it. Been lucky compared to most on here" Then I had a quick flick through my history and totted it up.... £120 New Immobiliser £145 2x Tyres £148 All belts changed £60 Windscreen excess £125 Gear shift cable £40 PAS pipe replaced £119 2x Tyres (Again) £120 for Oils, Serviceable bits, trim, and an unexpectedly cheap MOT fix Total? Getting on for £850. In a year! That's probably more than I've spent in the last 14 years maintaining all my previous sheds put together, and I STILL think I've gotten of lightly. God, Corrados... You love the cogs of 'em, but they don't half curb your drinking!

Great job Jim Curley and crew
Jim 2 Posted January 24, 2005 Going to speak to Stealth tomorrow for a bit of general maintainance work.. * Vibratechnics front mount refill (needed badly!) * Inspect rear engine mounts with view to changing them * Oil and filter (whilst its in the workshop) * Realign gearshift - messed up and notchy thanks to screwed front mount * Possibly redo gearbox oil as well * Cam and aux belt changes Yes i'm sure I could do some of this myself but i'm pretty bad with tools and doing work on my car. I just prefer to stay away and let the people who know what they are doing at it!
Supercharged 2 Posted January 24, 2005 * Cam and aux belt changes And get him to change the crank bolt if its not been done!
