chrishill 0 Posted October 13, 2005 After driving about in the bitter cold last night trying to demist my front windscreen with a heater fan thats louder than a low flying 747 I think its about time I tackled the issue. I bought a 'new' one off ebay a while back since the one that was in the car had the same overly vocal tendancys, it was fine save for a little squeak which I cured with some white grease sprayed into the holes at the base of the fan, but now its started making a real racket. Is it possible to dismantle them for repair? From memory it didnt look too easy to get apart so does anyone have any advice on how to silence it once and for all without buying a brand new unit? Jim 2 Posted October 13, 2005 Might be worth dropping a PM to coolrado or hunting through some of his old posts as i'm sure he posted up a mini howto on how to refurb a heater motor thingy :) I just gave up and bought a new one as i'm never keen to take apart electrical things I have no understanding of :)
chrishill 0 Posted October 13, 2005 found it, cheers jim... not sure i'm up to replacing the bearings with some from a RC monster truck axel though...:!: might just invest in a new one like you did and be done with it given that many people said that once its dead, its dead. Jim 2 Posted October 13, 2005 lol - I wasn't sure how he'd repaired it, I just knew he'd had a go :) If you didn't already know a new one is about £57+VAT from GSF.
chrishill 0 Posted October 13, 2005 yeah i thought they were around the £60 mark, pricy but worth it in the long run I think. I suppose if I'm resigned to buying a new one i might as well try pulling the old one to bits and fixing it first really, I'll have a bash this weekend and take photos for a 'how to' in case I manage to fix it!
