Dodgy air flow meter??

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have just had my VR on the dyno and it produced only 181bhp. The bloke said the problem is probably with the air flow meter as the air flow didn't change as he reved it. Has anyone else had this problem and is there an easy way to check that my air flow meter is ok as I don't really want to spend £350 on a new one.

Also would anything else cause this to happen.

Cheers

Russell

But is there an easy way to test it. The bloke said I can test the voltage changes as i blip the throttle but where do you test it. There are 5 pins on the MAF.

Want to get this sorted soon as i'm probably damaging my engine.

The red wire in your MAF loom is the signal wire. Bung a meter across that and earth. Should be 1 to 1.5V at idle and rise as you rev the engine with a maximum permissable value of 5V. If the signal is showing 12V at idle, the MAF is screwed - totally.

Your dyno tester cannot possibly determine the air mass in grammes/sec with OBD1. Only OBD2 tells you that.
