randomist 0 Posted July 3, 2006 just after confirmation really, my heater fan is totally dead so i've read through loads of searches & think this is the right thing to do, would you agree or am i wasting my time? i'm wanting to take the course of either replacing the complete fan in the footwell (if i can source a cheap one) or just replace the thermoresistor thingy? i had a quick look on flea-bay & a mk2 golf looks very similar & i was thinking about seat toledos or passats. does anyone know if they are the same? many thanks, chaps & chapesses
Supercharged 2 Posted July 3, 2006 If the resister has gone it should still work at stage 4 (no resistance) It may be the copper contacts on the switch need cleaning/bending or just simply the plug has come off or a fuse blown... I'd have a look at it before spending any cash...
randomist 0 Posted July 3, 2006 i've plugged it into a spare controller i had so i think that should rule out anything being wrong with the switch itself ( although my spare could be knackered) so that's why i'm thinking about replacing the fan. although the fact that it doesn't work at all is slightly concerning! definitely not working on stage 4 (just been to double check) oh yeah & i've checked the fuse (no 6 from the left according to the hand book & it's fine & dandy! GIXXERUK 0 Posted July 4, 2006 pull the knob off and check the copper contacts as Supercharged, says , then use a multi tester to check the plug at the fan is getting power to confirm the fan is dead , its easy to access from the passenger side ,just drop the shelf
randomist 0 Posted July 8, 2006 i've just been to a scrapyard & found a fan blower off an old seat toledo which is a perfect match for a corrado (mk 2 golf are only 4 pin as opposed to 5 pin on the corrado for future reference) got it for a fiver! bargain i thought! anyway, i've now tried a different fan blower a different control panel, i've checked all the fuses & i've checked the copper contacts on both switches i've used & still nowt! still totally dead! is there anything i've missed like a relay or something really simple or is it time to call an auto electrician? this is really doing my head in now so any help would be great!!! cheers
Supercharged 2 Posted July 8, 2006 purpley-corrado-dude, mk2 fans are the same you just change the resister pack over... I think you need to check for volts at the plug and start tracing back...
double-6s 0 Posted July 9, 2006 For future info, Mk3 Golf fans can be used as well. With a tiny bit of adaptation :)
randomist 0 Posted July 9, 2006 i hate electrical faults!!! i'm totally clueless so it looks like i'll have to call an auto electrican. bet they're expensive?
randomist 0 Posted July 11, 2006 bit of an update, booked my car into the garage to get the abs sensors checked over as the light was constantly on. i hadn't noticed that my wipers weren't working till last night so did a search & hay tesco (presto taken over by safeway then sainsbury etc!) something came up about the number 18 relay! rang the garage & told them what to do & a possible expensive job has turned into a tenner repair! my fan blower still isn't working but it's been apart so many times i've probably not put it back together properly! i'm going to have a faff about with it tonight, hopefully i can get it grafting! thanks for all your help chaps, :D
randomist 0 Posted July 11, 2006 huzzarr!!!!!!!!!!! i managed to fix the fan, it was the contacts on the switch itself. had to sort of twist it so that it made contact with the front & back of the switch. just when i thought it was all fixed my leccy windows wouldn't work & the imobiliser packed up! a search on the forum & it mentioned a fuse for the leccy windows just above the relays. took it out, bit of a rub with some sandpaper, put it back in & all is well! everything is back to normal & works as it should! hope this thread helps others like the forum search has helped me! don't know what i would've done without it! actually i probably would've sold the car!!!!!!!!!!! wonder what goes wrong next???
