Which Seats??

Recommended Posts

Ok after being inspired my KADVR6's recent leather dying i wanna get my interior sorted so its a more vibrant place to be (uni's finished for the summer so i have now got plenty of free time at the weekends)

But i'm not sure i wanna spend the effort dying the standard seats as they dont give enough lateral support during cornering. Does anyone know of any leather pews (maybe OEM from another vehicle even) that provide better support in the base - tbh the backs grip my back perfectly but my asre slides about during 'spirited' driving

I've seen a lot of recaro's in C's now do these provide extra support?

I went from the standard Corrado sports seats to Corrado Recaro's only for the looks.........the standard seats provide a lot more support IMHO

the r32 seats look like they give more support - although lovely - not sure if they totally suit the interior of a corrado. for proper support though - i think you'd have to leave the oem seats behind - unless porsche gt3 seats ;)

Yeah i was siding towards the R32 seats as i like them but i'm a bit concerned - they have side airbags dont they? so they'll be fookin heavy!

... unless porsche gt3 seats...
thats a bit of a hardcore option and yeah they dont really fit with the rest of the interior! But i like the idea of the lightweight seats... anyone know if the lightweight TT that was released a few years ago (two tone black and silver i think) are significantly lighter than the normal ones? pic of them below... look the nuts IMO

not sure about the r32 seats and airbags

the gt3 seats are very expensive too. those tt seats look nice - and if its that direction you want to go in - then there are loads of seats to choose from - inc recaro seats. all will need corrado subframes made up. comes back to the line between comfort and hold. blue_joe put in porsche seats of some kind - they look great but not sure theyre what youre after

sorry for sewing those seeds of thought mate  i agree with rodders though, the standard cloth seats do give more support than the leather recaro's, mainly due to the high thigh support on the standard cloth seats, also you slide around on leather  but do i care???

have a look at the FK range of seats, they did a really nice contoured seat, other than that really get some recaros from a ford rs (sorry) and get them re-trimmed in new leather (£400-£700) or these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PAIR-OF-LEATHER-R ... dZViewItem

dont forget german e-bay, http://cgi.ebay.de/FRONT-SEAT-LEDER-REC ... dZViewItem

just telling you all this mate, as these were my choices when looking at doing my interior.

Mates got a Ford RS with cloth Recaro interior and they are great, comfy yet with plenty of support, they even have a bit at the front which can be pushed out to give more depth to the seat and upper leg support.

Got leather in my C and yep, they do give plenty of side, back support but your arse just slides about on hard cornering.

Also, cold in winter and hot, sticky in summer.

ha ha the thoughts were already there, think of it as the kick up the arse i needed! :D

Like the photo of the ford seats - looks as if they're been left out in the rain, quality marketing from the seller there  Slightly confused now you say the cloth seats have better support? do you mean the cloth recaros? cos the leathers i have are the standard non recaros.

_leon_, tbh there's probably no way in hell i could ever afford GT3 seats, plus i'm 6'5" so getting in and out would be a chore with those side plates! O and does it get hot in Dundee? ;)

Jay2, which Ford RS mate, theres been a few!

Cheers for the advice guys, i think i'm gonna have to spend a while looking into this!

I agree with Roddy, though I would say that the Recaro's are more comfortable on long journeys.

How about my solution... Look for a pair of recaro's from an Evo 6. They are basically the same as the Recaro 'speed' range and cost me a piddling £200.

Fantastically comfy and look almost oe.

can you fit any seat into any car?

the new corsa VXR has nice seats

Well it seems that even for recaro's you have to be creative and make new subframes from the remains of old ones (not to difficult by the looks of it its just welding up some angle or box and attaching it to the C subframes with the relevant mounting holes to ensure the seat sits right) so in theory yeah, any holes a goal!

Corsa seats do look awesome (did i just say that  ) look similar to the old s3 recaros maybe?

Not necessarily.

If you are patient some old 'rocco frames will turn up eventually. They are a direct fit and unless you is a lard arse will give a nice driving position when on the lowest setting.

Like it! but i'm guessing you have sacrificed the back seats as being a 4 door i'd imagine they dont recline? Just so i know when the subframes do come up how much do they normally go for?

To be fair though those seats dont look very supportive really, they look like proper bucket style seats but the supports look tiny! Or is it just me :?

I think they look great but not for the C, they dont fit with any of the lines of the car or interior.

I'd like the seats to fit in and look oe.. not stand out like a set of crystal lexus lights on a chavalier! (Saw one on the way to work this morning so fresh in my mind  ) thats whty i like the look of the TT ones or Recaro Speed style, if you look at the headrest shape it matches the profile of the headrests on the C's rear bench (Warning - geek!)

They recline aswell as they were adapted from the speed range which are universal. So you wouldn't necessarily lose your back seats.

I got my frames from doing a swap with a set of old sebrings so I've no idea how much. Best to put a wanted in e38, club gti, rocco forum etc etc and see what you get back.

That or keep an eye out for battered old rocco recaro's on ebay.
