so. got the car back after a new engine. and now the dash don't work propably. speedo and revs dont move. yes checked the conectors. and the lcd is all the 8s. see pic. i have removed the unit and checked it through out for any damage.

does this mean a new dash dial console.?

No idea what's going on there, but surely take it back to the guys that fitted the engine and tell them to sort it...

its not something thats been left off as it was working the day before i picked it up. - i had to phone up and get the milage for the insurance renewal. just wondered if its been seen before. the work was done by a very reputable firm who we all know and i'm very pleased with it. the engine has never been so smooth.

also if i have to get new clocks. if i unplug the mile-o-meter display and plug it in the new one. will it keep my mileage. or is the milage memory in a chip on the pcb board..?

The mileage is in the clocks.

 

There should be two connectors to the dash, one for any temp/level gauges and the other for lights, have you checked both? Also check your earth connections are ok.

 

My dash twisted out once, but was fixed by unplugging the battery over night.

i've left the battery out and nothing. and when i took the clocks out. i had one bigish connector and a vac/boost hose for the maf.. i even tried the connector on off on off to see if it fixed it. but nout.. so if i get new clocks. i could swap over my mileometer to keep my miles.. cool. i'll check the earth on the connector to chassie and see whats its like.

This is exactly the same problem I've had for about 2 weeks now! I can tell you what it isn't - It's not the voltage reg in the clocks! If anyone knows what causes this I too would llove to know!

there are no connections that would cause that to happen if they where not connected, the only time the display should show all the segments like that (including all the indications around the numbers) is in segment test mode of the mfa in the hidden modes.

 

was the MFA connector plugged back in?

 

you could try dismantling the clocks and make sure all the contacts are clean and well seated.

 

was any welding carried out on the car while it was at the garage?

i have dismantled the clock and checked it all inside, all looks ok. no burning or cracked joints.

when it was in the garage. i went down to weld on a new exhaust braket. on the rear to the chassie. but the battery (and engine) where removed. could i have still damaged something. ?? arrhh

also where is the maf connector, and how do i tell if its in the secret testing mode.. thank you so much for all the help.

the MFA is the trip computer, oil temp, ect that you select with the button on the end of your wiper stalk, it wont be in the hidden mode though as you need to do a combination of things to get it into that mode and it resets to normal when you switch the ignition off anyway, the MFA cable connects to the rear of the clocks and if i remember properly is the thin green connector that is on a screened cable that leads from the steering column cowling.

 

it is unikely that the welding has caused damage but i suppose it could happen, i have seen a couple of modern cars show fault codes after having welding done on them, but they have been ok once reset, unfortunately there is no way to connect to the corrado clocks as far as i know, there is a circular connection port on the front of the clocks under a plastic cap but i dont think it was ever used.

ok spoken to some specialists. and this is a 'common' fault, and the unit can be referbed. or get a second hand one. eitherway. mines had it. theres a restister in the pcb has blown. althou you cant see it. ... wird ah

so you have seen the shift lights as well i think there well cool.

ok got a second hand console unit and it all works. excellent stuff.

except now my car shows 97000 miles not 47. what a bugger. is there any way to get my old milage back. i've looked at the unit and there no memory chip of such. where the milage memory kept.?

There are companys that can reclock digital speedo's for legitimate purposes.. i'd assume clocks as old as the Corrado's would be fairly easy to do? Have a look around for "mileage correction" companies - they should be able to do it :)
