catch tank under the airbox on a vr6

Can anyone tell me what this is for and if I need it?

I want to modify the air box and get more air in adn wondered if i could take this out and get more air in from there.

It's the carbon canister, which removes unburned petrol fumes. You can either delete it or relocate it. I've always found it easiest to relocate it under the MAF, on it's side, cable tied in place.

Don't modify the air box, it makes booogar all difference except make a chavy noise.

 

The only filter that works is the BMC CDA. It's hugely better in the midrange than both an open K&N cone and the stock box.....even with a turbo!
