dash clocks lights stopped working

had to drive home yesterday in the c for the first time in the dark for a while and noticed my dash clocks were not being lit up, last time i drive in the dark they were fine all the other lights work fine and the switches also light up.

 

any ideas what it could be, fuse? bad earth?

 

also last week i wired up a iso block as there one before must of been cut out and was getting no power to it, havnt got my multimeter with me so havnt looked into this, but do the stereo and dash clock lights share the same earth point??

try by passing the reostat as they sometimes cake up with a calcuim type of white power sometimes a heavy hand with the wheel fixes it

 

dash lights are all on a fuse together have you checked them ?

not checked the fuse yet, which is the fuse for the dash lights or atleast what amp is it

 

dont really fancy pulling them all out to find out if one has blown

don't have my manual to hand someones got a lend of it but from memory its about 15 -16 in number and would also only have a low rating maybe 15 amps

 

fuse diagram is on the top of the panel you remove to get at the fuse box

cheers, found out it was the fuse, but also found out that when the reostat is turned up it blows the fuse, is 10amps the correct size fuse?

seems to be fine though if the reostat is not moved tho

just checked the mk2 golf manual and it should be 15 amps corrado's are 90 spec golfs when it comes to fuse boxes so try a 15 amp

would explain why it blows fuses so easily, will put a 15amp one in 2moz

James is that the problem solved? I had this too tonight. Some very strange behavior in the car... First the dash lights all go out. I check the fuse in slot #3 - its out and its a 10A fuse. I pull over and change it for a new 10A one. I switch the car back on and the lights come back. I then notice that the needles have completely stopped worked - and the MFA didn't function - same with the digital clocks. All of a sudden - the needles start working but within a minute the lights go out again and the smell of burnt plastic confirms the 10A fuse has just burnt out again.

 

WTF is going on? Why has this only become a problem now - as there has always been a 10A fuse in there.

 

Can anyone confirm what should be in slot #3 please? And which slot the dash lights should be in please? Thanks...
