Ralph's VW Corrado VR6 Storm (Mystic Blue)

Recommended Posts

After a very long hunt, I managed to find and buy a immaculate Mystic Blue Storm. I owned a Corrado VR6 about 6 years ago and stupidly sold it (to buy a more family oriented car) and regretted it ever since. I just sold a 2003 M3 (as it was costing me an absolute fortune + it was depreciating big time...) and am so happy I went back to a Corrado. Especially as its been kept in such good condition + its only got 41k miles. It was kept in Jersey (which explains the low mileage) and I had to get two ferry's and drive around 300 miles to bring it back to the Isle of Man (+ pay VAT, tax, registration, test, transport etc), but it was well worth it and I had a fantastic road trip (just like a Top Gear style challenge), + i've still got a massive smile on my face. I had planned on downgrading (price wise) for around 2 years, but my new Storm ticks all the boxes, so don't expect to see it in the Cars For Sale section anytime soon. I've already had tons of interest in the car and think I will need to put an "It's NOT for sale" sign in the window. :D

Will try to post some pics soon.

Cheers guys. I definately made a wise move getting out of the M3 and into the Storm. The M3 was costing me the same as a small mortgage each month + its a bit pretentious, but the Storm is ten times cooler and should have much better residuals. I forgot how much fun Corrado's are to drive. It was a tough process to sell the M3 and buy a good Storm, but i think i found a diamond. There are some dodgy ones out there, theres one on Pistonheads right now which definately isnt a storm. Im off on holiday 2day, so wont b able 2 post 4 a while.

The Storm is fitted with FK Konigsport Coilovers (to lower it) and apart from the main roads & TT course, most of the roads on the Isle of Man are absolutely terrible (full of pot holes + speed bumps etc), so the ride is a bit too firm. Does anyone know if its possible to soften the ride without increasing the height. I think its lowered either 30mm or 45mm + dont want to change that, as it looks great. Cheers.

Have a read through the Drivetrain section, there's a very long thread about suspension that would be worth a look through. You'll probebly need to change your coilovers for a different set that have been designed to suit your needs more, there are 'comfort kits' available as far as I know. Unfortunately though, as with most things it's a case of 'you get what you pay for' with suspension, i've found in the past that it's not worth changing them unless you're upgrading to a really decent set-up.

Thanks Walesy, I had a read through there + also found some instructions on how to adjust the firmness of the front suspension + managed to get it a bit more suitable for our roads.

I've started to do some very minor bits & bobs to the car to get it pristine and have just finished upgrading the stereo too. I slapped a Pioneer AVH-P5900DVD (7" flip out touchscreen DVD, Multi-CD, iPod + AV inputs etc) + CD-BTB200 (bluetooth handfree integration kit) and it is awesome. It looks pretty sedate and normal when the screen is tucked away, but it takes a bit of getting used to when its in full operation, however, its well worth it for the iPod & phone interfaces, as they work seemlessly and can be controlled with the screen. Got a great deal via eBay (new, but around half the RRP = sweeeeeeet deal). :D

Now that that's done, there's nothing else I want to do to the car and im so glad I bought it.
