NEIL1711 0 Posted October 6, 2008 Quick question, on what I believe is some kind of heater fan control/thermal fuse, there is 3 coils of different thickness's, what do they do, I ask as the smallest coil has snapped, had a go at soldering it back togethor but no luck. Do I need to replace it ?. And finally could VW have made it any harder to gain access to ? Cheers Neil
fla 9 Posted October 6, 2008 No VW couldnt have made it harder :mad2: - this is a real niusance to get out. Unfortunately you will ahve to replace the 'spring' its actually a basic resistor which controls the fan speed, there are three of them for teh three lower speeds, speed 4 is direct power to the fan. Depending on where it has broken you could try and reinsert that into the fan circuit board, cutting out the old wire firtst of course. If you put the fan on holding these out you will see they get very hot VERY quickly. I done a thread on this, have a search in the Interior section under aircon. Pics arent great though. NEIL1711 0 Posted October 9, 2008 Does anyone know what resistance the thinist of the 3 spring coils should be as I was wondering as mine has snapped if I could just swap the spring for an industrial resistor of the same rating as I assume that as mine has snapped and if I just shortened it and reconnected it would affect the resistance value. ( it would loose 1 coil off the end). Cheers Neil.
