vwdeviant 0 Posted February 5, 2009 Ok Guy as the rubber straps are obsolete, what alternatives are there out there that work with a Rado parcel shelf? Apart from old Boot-laces!
Jim 2 Posted February 5, 2009 I'll have to get some pictures of the innovative straps I've got on my hacked up parcel shelf with 6x9's in it.. they're sort of thick string with plastic bits and loops at the end for latching onto the boot. They seem pretty decent and have withstood the weight of some very heavy 6x9's in the past no problem and they look reasonably OE to be honest. They've been on there ever since I got the car so I don't know if it was Laura / scarlett who did them or the previous, previous owner sambo!
renson 0 Posted February 5, 2009 Very expensive but these seem to stock some of the straps http://www.corradoparts.com/Interior_an ... _Trim.html
Jim 2 Posted February 5, 2009 $55! I'd get on with just lifting my parcel shelf by hand!
GlosterOx 0 Posted February 5, 2009 Or you can try these people: http://www.corrado-teile.de/shop/produc ... rrado.html Ian :D
VR6 South 0 Posted February 5, 2009 Adapt some of the cord and ball ones from a later Golf/Polo. Cheap from a breakers , although you will need the two round parts which fit on the parcel shelf so the cord slides through.
Jay2 0 Posted February 5, 2009 Do they have to take the weight of some heavy speakers on your parcel shelf? Got some plastic coated metal wire and a few miniature clamps from work and made my own. Had no problems with stretching since.
Jim Bowen 1 Posted February 5, 2009 i wanted to fit the drawstring ones that retract, didn't look into it though, but my dads audi a3 has them and i think mk4 golfs do
fla 9 Posted February 5, 2009 Slight digresion, but are there supposed to be any blocks on the bootlid that hold the parcel shelf in place? I hate it when it rumbles as you drive over a rough surface.
vwdeviant 0 Posted February 6, 2009 i wanted to fit the drawstring ones that retract, didn't look into it though, but my dads audi a3 has them and i think mk4 golfs do See now that was the sort of thing I was thinking about! My un-cut shelf's got 2 good straps, just the one in the car with the 6x9's has broken one and the other's starting to go under the weight of holding the shelf on its own! :(

GlosterOx 0 Posted February 14, 2009 PhilUK, They went obsolete around July/August last year - I phoned all the dealers who were supposed to stock them and found 1 only!! Ian :D
Philuk 0 Posted February 14, 2009 thats a bit dump, i managed to put a screwdriver through my hand getting the broken ones out of my old shelf, do the new golf ones not fit?? seen as they are just a piece of rubber with a hole and a bung i cant see those being the only ones that do it! GlosterOx 0 Posted February 15, 2009 I've never looked into it but one of the parts guys I spoke to reckoned there was a Polo Strap of the same era that would fit - Anyone know if this is true? Ian
shawshankkid 1 Posted February 15, 2009 Good call Gloster ox.....i've been through etka Part - Retaining Band. Original part 535 863 447 A Polo 1991. 871 863 447 Now, I've just measured a spare strap which is 325mm. says on the polo part 291mm. look same other than that though. I will order one tommorow and check it out properly.
vwdeviant 0 Posted February 16, 2009 Good shout Chris, let us know what the damage is too! Slightly sorter strap would be good as I tend to only open the boot 1/2 way in wet weather to stop dripping from rear lights/plate surround into the boot anyway. So a shelf that rises a bit more than it does currently would be good!
StueyB 0 Posted February 16, 2009 Was about to say Jon, know for a fact that mk2/mk3 Polo's use exactly the same design, as mentioned i think length would be the only issue and maybe, just maybe hole size to hook over mounting point but i'm sure they'd stretch. Want me to compare my bro's (Mk3 GT) and my shelf, as we're re-fitting rest of my interior one night this week?

leon263 0 Posted February 16, 2009 Need one of these my-self and was having a look on e-bay for parcel shelf straps/rubbers and found quite a few Ford Escort/ Fiesta ones on offer. They look identical to the Corrado ones and they are listed as being 12.5 inches long which is about spot on. Think I'll have a look in the local scrappy as there will be a helluva lot more Fords about than Corrados.
colinstubbs 0 Posted February 17, 2009 Slight digresion, but are there supposed to be any blocks on the bootlid that hold the parcel shelf in place? I hate it when it rumbles as you drive over a rough surface. These were still available from the stealers for not too much, gotta be worth a try. If not get some black high density foam and trim to fit!
Mcr VR6 0 Posted May 19, 2009 Very expensive but these seem to stock some of the straps http://www.corradoparts.com/Interior_an ... _Trim.html Wow, those $55 ones are listed on the site as top sellers, who on earth is paying that for them?! I am short of two boot straps as well, there's lots of good options here, did anyone fit one of the options successfully?
