Flexso 0 Posted June 2, 2009 Hi all, Can anyone reccomend a rolling road in these areas. I want to put my C on one to see what the output is? Im currently trying to get to the bottom of the misteries surrounding my Corrado. Possible Oettinger engine? :norty: If anyone could recommend one I would appreicate it. thanks
JMC 0 Posted June 2, 2009 Surrey Rolling Road is the one you need mate - near Longcross and about 15mins from J13 M25 or the same from J11. They tend to be 'realistic' rather and optimistic with their figures as well. Luckily they are about 5mins from me, so I am a regular with them whenever I fit anything

Flexso 0 Posted June 2, 2009 Have you a phone number ? Also how much do they charge?
Phil K 0 Posted June 2, 2009 Surrey Rolling Road is owned and run by my friend Charlie and is run as an indipendent company... which in short means their results are honest as they don't have to make exagerated claims like some companies will after charging you lots of cash for performance upgrades! JMC 0 Posted June 2, 2009 They are on the web... http://www.surreyrollingroad.co.uk/ Phone number is 01276 686111. Charlie charges £50 inc vat for a set of power runs, an allow 45 mins including the setup time. Of course if you can find a rolling road day in operation you can probably get it a few quid cheaper, but if you definately want it doing he is very good, and very close by. Doh, beaten to it

HiAsAKite 0 Posted June 2, 2009 Ditto can recommend Charlie...
bananawhip 0 Posted June 2, 2009 In performance car magazine they took the same car to 7 reputable dyno's around the UK and Surrey Rolling Road quoted it the lowest by a fair distance. Appreciated that the owner may be a nice bloke and not inflating figures but that wouldn't exactly fill me with confidence.

Neil VR6 0 Posted June 3, 2009 I've taken a few cars to SRR and was impressed. Their new place is great - a huge old building where they used to test out tank shells. Their fans are enormous too.
Flexso 0 Posted June 3, 2009 did you get a realistic bhp reading or were you disappointed with the readout?
bananawhip 0 Posted June 3, 2009 Where did you take yours again Tom? Took mine to Regal, was tempted to try and steal their mk5 off the drive but think they may of noticed... Got dyno'd at 200bhp with a chip, BMC, and decat so that's probably about right, maybe even a little low but definately not inflated to make me feel better. Need to get it done again now as it's been a year and quite alot has changed :)
The_Dude 0 Posted June 3, 2009 We need Phil_K to organise another RR day, its been about a year and a half since the last one! I'd be interested to see how many ponies I have now. Or anyone else fancy organising one? I can't be @rsed  It was a good turnout, even though I got there late, there were still loads of people hanging about to watch a 350hp turbo golf! Where's Regal Mr 'Whip?
bananawhip 0 Posted June 3, 2009 Where's Regal Mr 'Whip? It's in Southampton, Used to be (and still kinda is) a Vauxhall specialist but they seem to own and love VW's now  That's what it's all about, take money from Clueless Vauxhall owners, and throw it at tuning mental 350bhp Golfs...sweet

Need to get the 'Ring trip out the way first, then a short rest for the old girl until another day slaving away at Santa Pod for the next VW festival. I'll come with you though, makes your hairs stand on end standing next to your car on full chat, pretty cool :afro:
Neil VR6 0 Posted June 3, 2009 did you get a realistic bhp reading or were you disappointed with the readout? The result I got with my G60 and then with my S14A 200SX 'felt' correct given subsequent works and my 'seat of the pants' rolling road as comparison. I'd be interested in taking the VR6 as to me it feels like it's making very good power for a stock set up.
JMC 0 Posted June 3, 2009 did you get a realistic bhp reading or were you disappointed with the readout? After having been to a couple of places, I am happy with SRR being fairly accurate. Charlie is very open about the fact that other places read high, and is always the first to say that if you want big ego numbers go elsewhere. The main thing is to not try and comapre results fromm one place with another whenever you get tuning work done. I had a 13bhp difference (233 to 246bhp) measured in 2 places, 2 days apart, with identical weather conditions, tire pressure and fuel.

Your dead right about sticking to the same RR for accurate results but when SRR give the lowest in a UK test then the law of averages suggest that they can't be that accurate. No doubt they really know what they're doing but I'd prefer to go somehwere in the middle of the spectrum, with your 13bhp difference I'm guessing SRR was the lowest as that's about what they differed in the review that I read, and that was only on a Ford Ka I think from memory. Phil K 0 Posted June 3, 2009 Well as you'd expect with any company they all have their fan clubs and the odd hater here or there... either way I can't see any reason why SRR aren't accurate! If they provided a tuning service then I'd expect their figure to read a little higher to help support thier work. At the end of the day though (and as I said before) they don't offer anything other than power runs hence have nothing to proove and on that basis I feel that their results are a lot more real world than you would get else where. Another valid point and it's one thats already been made - so long as you use the same RR to check performance before and after modifications then thats really the only way to guage how your engine has improved/suffered. I ran my LCR on Charlie's road 6 months after purchase with roughly 10K on the clock and I acheived 224.8hp. Now considering my casr is meant to have 225ps out of the box thats round about what I was expecting if not a little higher... Since then I have only maintained rather than modify it due to being in warrenty to the end of last year and if I'm honest a little bit skint too  With that in mind I think it's about time to see where the power is now - especially as it's covered another 50K since the last visit! If there is enough interest in a CF RR day at SRR then put your names down in here and we can go from there. From past experience 10 people or more has brought the prices down to roughly £35 per head but I'll confirm once we have an idea of numbers... Hope that helps? bananawhip 0 Posted June 3, 2009 Not a hater mate just being honest, RR's have no reason to over read as even if they do offer tuning all it would do is make the base line figure higher and therefore you even less likely to feel compelled to modify it. Plus nobody really needs a reputation for having a dodgy RR. Out of 7 RR's test SRR read the lowest is all I was saying, fact, and as I said about averages it doesn't bode particularly well. Saying that I would be interested in a group thing out of interest, definately count me in.
