Spoke to VW this morning Yan, he looked up a late front wing and quoted £109.55 inc VAT?? I asked him to check again as I thought they were more expensive but he seemed positive???

 

Anyway, been for a quote at a local repairers, (recommended to me by my VW specialist) the bodyshop guy reckons he should be able to pull out the dent and the curve around the headlamp easily enough with a slide hammer welded to it, which would mean minimal filler used, paint the wing and full bumper, and sort a couple of car park dings (paintless dent removal) on the sides for around £400 cash.

 

If we take it through the insurers he can repair ONLY the damage thats been done, so I wouldn't even get the bumper painted fully. Really want the other bits doing whilst it's there, so I reckon i'm gonna go the cash route...

 

Spoke to the guy who's wife hit me, he seems happy enough with that sort of price to settle without going through his insurers.

 

So I suppose it's a case of wait and see, fingers crossed.

 

 

Humn if late wings are that price that only means one thing, buy them now as they clearing out what's left before they go obsolete!

 

I still think it would be worthwhile getting a new wing fitted, especially as you have some rust around the indicator hole and that dent will never be the same again; at £110 for a new one it is well worth doing.

I'm split down the middle on new / old wing.... my only concern's would be the new wing not lining up correctly. but if the garage is skilled enough it should be no problem. I guess it's an easier job to knock the old one out and fill where required and cheaper.

It's not like it's a pattern wing, a genuine VAG one should fit with no effort at all.

Yeah few bolts and some sealant. The outer wing is actually refered to as a mud wing, they are not structual in any way so it's easyish to get them on and off.

If it's never been off then you will need to heat it slightly to break the sealant, early cars are especially well bonded!

So just had another call from the womans hubby, he's now insistent on going through his insurers, and has told me that his insurers will be in touch with me to let me know where it will be going for repair, and when.

 

Now, I'm not happy with them taking it to their "preferred repairers" so am I within my rights to demand it goes to my main dealers, where I have been quoted for repairs already??

 

My local main dealer has quoted:

£155 for paint

£348 for labour

£109.55 for the wing

plus any other parts (sealant, bolts etc)

 

Looking at around £630 - £650 all in I reckon, and the dealer has assured me he will paint the full front bumper (bonus), the new wing (obviously) and blend in to the passenger door.

 

Having never been down this road before, I'm unsure if I am obliged to stand my ground with his insurers? Or do I have no say at all in where it goes to for repair??

Which is just what I don't want as they'll do the job as cheaply as possible, and not to the standard the dealer would have (pattern wing, or even not swap the wing).

Not neccessarily true, the 2 different companies I've been to (despite wanting to go to the dealer) had an excellent company profile, and the work they had done was superb! They won't choose 'any old company that's cheap' for the hell of it, their insurance company should have a list of 'reputable bodyshops' that they will allow ur car to be taken to. I know u'd rather VW do it, as I would have. But for instance, with my mk3, I had actually taken the car to a bodyshop beforehand for a rough estimate, and for the front bumper to be sprayed and a couple of touches here and there was around £400!!! :shock:

 

So I was like "Im not paying for it to go there", and then it ended up going there through insurance!

When a woman drove in to the back of me I insisted the repairs were done where I wanted them to be done (Stylehaus 8)) and they were fine with that, they just sent a guy out to assess the damage (who turned out to be a guy who worked for VW and used to own a corrado so said "There's no way this isn't getting repaired!" :lol:). Just hold your ground mate, I'm pretty sure you have every right to choose where it's done as it wasn't your fault!

Just got off the phone to her insurers, they gave me the choice of finding my own repair firm, or going with theirs, so my main dealer have faxed her insurers the quote i had done earlier, and i will hopefully hear back from them tomorrow, with a date for the C to go in for repair.

 

Well relieved! :D

 

Her insurers are supplying me with a hire car for the duration too!

Glad it's worked out for you chap, insurers will always try it on with their own repairers. Very glad you're going down the replacement wing route, unless it's a small dent it's always better to go down the replacement panel route.

The dreaded Assesor has approved Vera's repair this morning, so she's booked in to my Main Dealer for a new wing, bumper repair and paint, and paint blend into the passenger door next Monday, hire car also arranged at no cost!!

 

Might be a bit cheeky on Monday and ask the guy in the bodyshop (thoroughly nice chap) if he'd be prepared to sort the other couple of carpark dings down the sides too, If you don't ask you don't get eh?! :D

The only bit of bodywork ever replaced on my C is the same wing, done via similar circumstances and repaired via an insurance crash repair place and the f'kin wing is rusty as f'ck, absolutely terrible round the side indicator and worse where they rolled the arch - it's the only bit of rust on my C and it's on the newest panel so make sure you get a genuine VW part rather than a cheapo sh't pattern piece of crap that a repair place will fob you off with . . .
