Part number for foam wrapping on looms?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what the part number is for that foam stuff that wraps up parts of the wiring loom?

Or is there any sort of alternative? Couldn't see anything suitable in Halfrauds.. or B&Q

If you go to ETKA, look at the dash looms towards the back end of the 09 electrical section, you will see it listed as an item. ie. Item 14 - 533 867 910 A felt strip (adhesivel) 'order qty. 25'

I suspect it may not be the same as the factory, ie its a tape where as the factory is tubular foam.

This how the looms are expected to be repaired.

Alternatively you can buy anti-rattle felt as 000 979 950 - Black, 5 metres length at £4.29 + VAT. This is self adhesive 1 cm wide tape with an outer skin of felt material.

I brought some Rayon Cloth Wiring Tape off eBay, at £8.99 a roll. But it looks good once you rewrap your loom, just like new. Just type rayon tape into the search.

Or you could get it from Vehicle Wiring Products.

The original foam tubes would be of no use to you now anyway because VW's loom makers slid them over the wire bundles *before* fitting the plugs. A very expensive and time consuming way to make a loom. You won't see that level of anti-rattle / chaff protection on cars again, except high end Maybach type cars.

The VAG tape dealers sell is the next best thing. It's very fluffy and makes very neat looms.

Yep, have loads of it myself. I use it on engine harnesses too, where it doesn't seem to distintigrate like the original cloth tape does.
