sheffield-corrado-owner 10 Posted February 13, 2013 I will explain what happened in a bit of detail so hopefully someone can help me with this seemingly impossible problem! My battery died the other night, central locking didn't work so I climbed in through the boot. (no locks on the outside of the doors - I will come back to this point later!) I tried to open the drivers door from inside but it wouldn't budge, luckily the passenger side opened. I didn't think much of it and charged the battery overnight, put it back in the following day and the central locking was working again but still not on the driver's side, neither would it open from inside and the button to open it felt loose. Here's the annoying thing: for some reason someone years ago decided to add a security feature to the car where they removed the lock on the outside of the driver's side and replaced it with a blank bit of plastic. There is no keyhole on the outside. There is a keyhole on the passenger side but my key doesn't fit it. The only way to get into the car is with the remote central locking (aftermarket immobiliser/alarm system.) It still works on the passenger side but not the driver side. I can't even get the door card off to look at the mechanism without cutting it to pieces because I can't open the door! I have no idea what to do apart from vandalise the door card... Does anyone have any better ideas? Thanks for your time. Sam.

Hi mate, sounds like a tricky one if its electrically related, quite often when after market alarms are fitted it can leed to problems down the line, it could just be related to a loose connection in the loom somewhere where it has been messed about with in the past as you mention with the keyless door handle. I had a similar problem turn out to be a faulty central locking pump- easy fix tho. The only thing i can suggest if your not handy with car electrics is to get a specialist electrician but could be pricey. i would certainly suggest picking up another door handle - a genuine one with key barrell- ebay perhaps, then you can work it of the key next time... see if you can remove the grab handle from inside and carefully pull away door card from top to see if you can gain excess a little better to the mechanism....the only other thing is check for dodgy wiring inside side of footwell where loom comes through door...you could also try dissconnecting and reconnecting the pump drivers side rear boot area to see if that will reset things... keep me posted
Bazmcc 0 Posted February 13, 2013 Where is the controller for the security system? Do you still have the wiring diagram? Obviously one of the wires from it will be going to the lock where it pops it. All you need to do is find which wire that is and zap it with a few volts and you should be good.
Jochen744 10 Posted February 13, 2013 I have the same problem but on passenger side... button will not come up, outer handle will not open it or inner handle. I think its my lock unit seized, but also need to try and remove the trim without damaging it too much. will be my weekend job i think if weather cheers up? good luck with yours. Jochen744 10 Posted February 17, 2013 Managed to get mine open today.. Pulled the trim away enough to get in and see that the lever that is operated by the outer handle had stuck down. pulled it up and lubricated it all with WD40 and now working correctly. I even done the other side just incase it had any ideas!! Thanks for the link Wullie.
sheffield-corrado-owner 10 Posted February 21, 2013 I took it to the garage and they've identified that it's the wiring that had burned out. Currently driving it with the door card off and with the driver's side door constantly open (not literally.) Alarm still works though and immobiliser works too. Not worried about it being stolen really.
