Engine oil & filter change

Ok as far as i know its the same on all Corrados. Its a simple job that should be done once a year and can save you lots of money.

For this you will need: sump washer, 4.5L* of oil (eg. quantum gold) and then the VAG filter if you're doing this too.

Note that the VR6 takes 5.5L of oil. You also need an empty container that will hold all of the drained oil and will fit under the car - for example an old oil container laid on its side with the side cut out (top on). Newspapers too.

1. Get the engine stinking hot, take it for a good blast for at least 15 mins. This ensures the oil is hot and becomes thinner, thus allowing it to pour out easily.

2. Park on a flat surface. For those with a lowered car, you may want to jack the front up a tiny bit to allow easy access (no need to lift the wheels off the deck).

3. Place your empty container below the sump plug (on newspaper to avoid staning the driveway); undo the sump plug (photo required please), found to the rear of the sump. WARNING, the oil is very hot, use gloves. Also note; try not to drop the bolt into the dirty oil. Now wait for 15mins for it to drain (with the top oil cap removed from within your engine bay)

4. Now remove the washer off the bolt (plug) and replace with the new one. Now put the bolt back in place, torque setting unknown, but a 1ft bar with hand pressure should be more than plenty.

5a. Removing the filter: best done with a filter wrench, undo. Empty oil into container and dispose. Replace new filter with your hands, as tight as your hands allow. Top tip; grease the rubber with some of your new oil.

5b. Removing filter without a wrench: is tricky and can cause damage if done wrong. Pierce the filter with a thin screwdriver at the bottom (away from engine end), off centre to avoid internal thread. Let the oil leak down into your container you placed on the floor and the unscrew with the screwdriver in place.

6. Now add the appropriate amount of oil - as I say its 4.5L for the 4 cylinder Corrados, 5.5L for the VR6.
