HI all to start you need:

1) Socket set

2) Spanner

3) Copper grease

4) Brake pads if required i was only checking my pads and re-greasing them as they were binding!

5) New discs if also being changed!

6) Trolley jack or jack or even better put the car on axel stands to make car more stable

Get the tea’s in (Most important job).

Step 1: take wheel trims, centre caps or bolt covers away from alloy to see the 4 bolts.

Step 2: use socket set and extending arm to losen bolts on wheel.

Step 3: line jack up with jack point and jack car up slowly (if using axel stands put them under the car and slowly lower the jack onto the axel stand.

Step 4: once this is done slowly unscrew the loosened bolts with either a socket set or by hand when all bolts have been removed take off wheel slowly and store in a safe place.

Step 5: the calliper to take this off you will need a 13mm socket and a spanner to hold the nut, helpful if you have someone to hold spanner I then started with the lower bolt on the calliper at the bottom as this allows the calliper to swing off without falling off.

Step 6: we then did exactly the same for the top bolt while my friend held the calliper the calliper will then come lose I then laid it down gently under the car. Note: It is advised to push the Calliper pistons back as far as they will go ready for fitting new pads this can be done by hand without undoing the nipple but is very hard.

Step 7: The Brake pads after you have taken the calliper off you can take the pads off by simple giving them a wiggle they will then come lose from the calliper carriers

Step 8: If you are changing the disc it is at this point you will need your socket set again as to get the calliper carriers off there are 2 bolts on the back of the hub one higher & one lower very much like the calliper itself, but these bolts tend to be stiff so you’ll have to give it a bit of welly. Someone has previously slightly rounded my top not off not good, once these two bolts are off the calliper carrier will simple come away.

Step 9: After you have taken the carrier off there is one small retaining screw that is holding the disc in place this is used to line up the hub and disc for the wheel nuts to go through when you have removed this screw the disc will simply pull off you can then change it for your new disc (these discs are available direct from vw or gsf car parts and euro car parts)

Step 10: put the disc back on to the hub line it up with the wheel bolt holes and screw in the screw you took out earlier once this is done you need to put the calliper carrier back on and tighten up the two bolts that hold it in place to torque figure for carrier bolt is 125Nm (92lb ft).

Step 11: then time to change the pads or re-grease the old ones if there is ample tread left on them. This grease is applied to the side of the pad that doesn’t touch the disc except where the calliper piston touches I put no grease on this part.

Step 12: Refitting the calliper: just follow the steps of taking the calliper off to refit it, the bolts should be tightened to Torque figure for the caliper bolts is 35Nm (26lb ft) Once this is done put the wheel back on making sure you re-trace every step so nothing is forgotten check all toque figures and off you go!

Thanks to everyone who initially helped me from the forum. Cheers Andy
