Steering Rack Mount Replacement

Changing the steering rack bush (all models)
As with all VW PAS cars there is only one bush for the steering rack and powerflex do a replacement (Mk2/Mk3 PAS - VR6 ones are slightly different)
It is located at the expansion tank side of the engine (on a RHD car) and is held to the crossmember with a metal clamp and 2x 13mm nuts and bolts with the bolts being captive to the crossmeber (I think) it is a good idea to change the nuts (M8 Shouldered) for new ones and also apply some PlusGas the day before.
With the car on axle stands (idealy a lift) get a spanner on nut and a ratchet on the bolt underneath and undo, with the nuts removed try and lever a screwdriver under the clamp and lever it up enough to be able to pull it out of the engine bay.
The mount should then come out by pulling towards the front of the car, the split section at the bottom will come out. Slide the new one on it, note the powerflex item seems slightly thinner but these seem to widen and sit properly as the clamp is tightened up.
The clamp will need to be pushed into place until you can get a nut on the thread, I did this by fitting onto the back bolt from above then using a screwdriver to lever the front on and then using a long bar to hammer it down into place and finally clamping the nuts down onto it.
As with engine mounts it is worth starting the car and moving it around a bit before tightening up fully to make sure eveything is seated properly.
