  1. Midnight Blue Pearl VR6

I bought this to save it from rotting away on a driveway and have come to love it but must part ways for other projects.

    150000 miles

    Work I have done:

    New heater matrix

All callipers stripped, cleaned, new seals, new pads, painted.

    New clutch slave cylinder

    Cleaned & greased rear spoiler

    New battery

Complete service (oil, oil filter, NGK plugs, fuel filter, air filter)

    Good Bits:

MOT until July, went through last MOT with the ONLY bit of rust welded on the sill.

Interior: Heated leather is in very good condition although some levers, knobs missing.

    Weitec GT coilovers (with adjuster)

Stainless exhaust (not sure of make)

Sunroof works in all ways (could do with a new seal though)

    Spoiler auto rise/fall works

    DDi EL gauges

    Bad Bits

Bodywork needs attention (no rust but tatty paint in places and some dings/scrapes.

Needs new tyres, this may be done if it doesn't sell quickly.

No stereo, I've not needed it due to the VR6 sound!

When I bought this car I wanted a quick flip but have enjoyed every moment of driving it so much I need to sell it now before I never let it go!

It drives well and even though the body could do with paint, when cleaned up it still turns heads and looks great.

There may be bits I have forgotten so any questions please

    ask.

EDIT: Electric mirrors are now fixed and work correctly.

Car is located in Aylesbury, Bucks

    Cash on collection preferred.

    List Date: 5/3/2015

    Location: Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom

Its been a bit of a journey and i've considered throwing in the towel more than once but thanks to the help of people on here and ebay she is back on the road with 12 months MOT.

I must say the VR6 sound is very nice and could get me into a lot of trouble, I haven't even missed having a stereo!

  3. Cheers for the part number John! I'll keep looking around.

I've put a pic up of the problem I described above in case anyone else has the same problem in future...

The top matrix is the Hella/Behr one from GSF (£47.64) and the bottom one is the EIS one from Euro's (£20).

If you look closely at the angle of the plastic plate on the pipes you'll see that they are different. The Hella one will not fit into the heater box without excessive force and the plate is angled wrong to fit against the bulkhead when it is in place inside the heater box.

The cheaper EIS one is a good fit and the plate is on the correct angle once fitted into the heater box. Just wish I could find a hella or valeo unit that was the correct fit as this EIS one looks pretty poor quality tbh...

They're not LHD vs RHD are they?

  4. The heater control has had some cellotape to keep the plastic on at the back (i found this out when I removed it). The unit worked fine on all speeds etc.

Also I have two headlights for sale in this thread the price is £20 for the pair

    http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=85114

Has the pic of carbon canister too

Thanks for the reply, I've had a look through the post, both headlights look like drivers side, is the adjuster the same? Do you have a better pic of the heater control/centre console? Is it the white plastic cover on the rear thats sellotaped on?

    Sorry for the q's

    Thanks.

  5. Hi gareth

I have a heater control, charcoal canister and headlight bits. Have a gander at my for sale or breaking ads as you have a choice of some bits.

The a pillar trim clips do you mean the plastic ones? As have lots of them but maybe just best to get from vw as dont cost much

Thanks for the heads up on the clips, im not used to being able to pick new parts up for a 20+ yr old car!

With regards the bits you have, I looked through 2 threads and it looked like the heater control and a headlight had been sold. Could you let me know what you want for the bits you have please?

    Thanks

  6. I'm looking for a few bits all for the above car, thought id try here before going on the bay

    Passenger seat lumbar adjuster

    Driver seat release lever

let me know what you have

    Thanks

    Gareth

  7. Thanks for the reply J.C. I went back at it with a level head today after thinking about what I could have done to cause it. Turns out it wasnt really me at fault the wires were for the heated washer jets and had previously been damaged down by the ecu which is also where one of the nuts for the dash is. I must have disturbed it when undoing the nut and it shorted. Ive now had the dash back out and replaced the wires on question. Also spent some time tidying the wiring up as all the original foam had disintegrated so the wires were all over the place. Much happier now and can carry on with the original plan. Thanks again

  8. This may be in the wrong section but i couldnt see one for electrics so pls move if thats the case.

so to catch you up, i rescued a vr6 from a depressing rust filled end and progress has been good so far with getting it running, fully rebuilt brakes and only the heater matrix to do, I went at it today. Unfortunately I must have snagged a wire whilst putting the dash back and upon starting we had wafts of smoke. Battery was disconnected straight away and ive located the wire affected but cant tell where it goes or quite how I caught it. Ive basically wasted a complete day on it and its now worse than it was before. The wire in question is behind the clocks and its a black wire in a sleeve with a brown earth it heads off under the sound proofing one end towards the engine and somewhere around the back of the fuse box the other but I couldnt trace it. Does anybody know where this wire goes?

The way I feel now, its heading towards being broken, the only thing thats stopping me is the thought of taking the engine out!

If I can get this fixed it may live to see another day so any help would be appreciated.

If no joy look out for the for sale/whats it worth thread

    Thanks

  9. Original plan was to make some money on it, be that with a complete car or parts. I was secretly hoping it wouldn't be too bad and I could add it to the fleet but I wouldn't be happy with it unless it had a full respray with the welding done and everything working as it should.

I guess the question I would like to ask is what sort of value would it have polished up with an MOT but bodywork required and what sort of value would the parts have.

I don't like breaking cars in fact I've never done it and instead just held onto things (I still own my gsf400 from when I first passed my big bike test 15yrs ago and my Rover 220 coupe turbo which I've had for 10yrs) but this was never bought to drive. I'd still feel crap about breaking it though.

  10. Ok so following on from this thread http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=83633 I have now drained all old fuel, cleaned plugs and tried again, she runs sweet as, no misses just purring and idling well. The clutch and gearbox work but didn't have enough private road to test fully.

I do have steam from the dash air vents though so presume the matrix has gone, the brakes are also in need of replacement as well as headlight and indicator lenses, headlights also don't work and the paintwork is in poor condition with repairs needed to both sills at front and back.

Good points are engine sounds and pulls well, all electrics bar previously mentioned and passenger window work, interior is tidy, panels are solid.

What should I do with it?

Realistically I think I could get it through an mot for a few hundred but what's the cost of a heater matrix?

Would it make more sense to stop now and break it? Would there be interest in most parts?

I'm very torn, any help would be appreciated.

    Gareth.

  11. That's a hell of a population for a small village! I take it therapor's not been on here for a while as no user listed under that name. Not that I'm looking for him but history on the car as didn't get much in the way of paperwork etc.

  12. It has got forum stickers but I can't remember which ones, will check. It was from Haddenham, Bucks. It wouldn't surprise me if there was history and if anybody knows it I would be appreciative. I don't ET a whole lot of time to work on it so it's tucked up under a plush cover at the moment until I can do more.

    Thanks for all the welcomes

  13. I couldn't let her sit in that state so made an offer and trailered her away, didn't want to leave though so I had to take out the rear pads just to get it to move. Interior is full grey heated leather and in v.v. Good condition, all body panels are surprisingly solid and the spoiler even goes up and down!

Basically if it has a chance of going back on the road it will be there but I'm not going to spend more than its worth (unless I get the bug and the wife doesn't notice!)

It was supposedly the previous owners pride and joy and has some nice bits on it but was parked up due to a company car and just never touched again.

    Thanks for the welcome.

  14. Hi all

I recently became the new owner of a rather sad looking VR6.

    image_zps3bd67dae.jpg

Gave her a bit of a clean to check the condition and see what I was dealing with

    image_zpsb7ed8791.jpg

Turns out a fair bit of lacquer peel, broken n/s lense and fog, knackered seals pretty much all round and a few holes in sills!

So left the bodywork to see what the engine was like, bearing in mind she had been sat for around 4 years, I chucked a battery on (traced and disabled the alarm/immobiliser that I didn't get a fob for) and she started. A bit rough as to be expected on fuel that old but worth pursuing.

So the next jobs are to drain old fuel and replace, oil change, clean/replace plugs and recheck how she runs.

Will aim to keep you updated.

    Gareth
