local garage will check it out on computer . but he said if the fluid smells burnt the box is breaking up inside , i think it does smell burnt . anyone out there heard this or is it just the fluid knackered making it smell. i dont wanna get ripped , my missus has got that look on her face

yeah i did wonder about that. i think i can get it checked at a local non vag garage

it will go in sometimes but of course not until you hit the redlinein 3rd which makes it a little bit tricky. it seems to be stuck in sport mode as it is holding high revs all thru the box and also the revs rise between gears as though it is in neutral. any ideas on the method of changing the fluid i dont even know where the drain/refill points are. cheersl

anyone know about auto boxes mine has decided it doesnt like changing up to 4th . ATF looks pretty crap ! how should it look ? is it worth changing it ?

actually thinking about it it was probably more like 2 hoursto change the rad cos i had a problem getting the spring clip off the bottom hose and had to go out to get a special tool ( crowbar!! )

just done the rad. 3 hours using the battery removal method a doddle , thanks all contributors. one thing no-one mentioned , run all self tappers into rad before you have it in position makes life easier cheers :D

i cant find any reference to it on the forum and i dont see any archives that he was talking about. but the local garage (not vw) want £250 = fitting + vat. i got one from euro for£99 + so if all it takes is time i gottit , i dont use the car for in the week anyway

can anyone tell me the abs warning light part no 535919235 AA my car has the one with the smooth finish. i have got hold of a new ? one but it has a knurled finish around the light. which is the old one and which is new one and where can i get a price on a real new one ? :?

yeah but since then i found the elbow on the right side was broken and bodged with sticky stuff ?. replaced that and then found a small leak in the rad just below it, apparenltly if you get heavy with this elbow it may damage the rad. anyway £195 + vat + fitting . bolloes to that radweld and a 60 mile caning seems to have done the trick. only thing is i now have a low down misfire must have got water in, :? but in what ? i am gonna try some new ht leads any ideas where from :wink: cheers

i have just had my matrix replaced as soon as i got the car back and gave it a go the main radiator blew could this be pressure in the system or just old age it has done 180000 ( 1 previous owner captain james t kirk !)
