I have just put a new VW short engine into my sons 1990 1.8 16v, when trying to start the engine it took ages for it to start, like one day of trying, when we evetually got it running, it was running very rough and sounds like the engine is getting to much fuel, as if the choke is on all the time, it also smells as if its a fuel problem from the exhaust, I disconeceted the vacuum hoses and it seems to run alot smoother but still not as it should, the valve timing is correct, as is the ignition timing, my son put the main fuel hose on the wrong way around, could this have caused any damage, when the car is driven its fine, and smooth, but it tries to cut out when you stop, before the engine change it was ticking over just fine, the air screw has to be almost fully out or it will not run.
any suggestions would be very welcome
Thanks
