Work done over last 3 Years: Clutch kit Slave cylinder on clutch Radiator ABS sensor on brake pedal Rocker main headlight swich Drivers door handel Coil pack/HT leads/ Militek replacement SS after CAT exhaust Kn Induction kit Under sealed Anti roll bar link Nr side CV boot Suspension mounting bushes front Idle valve Starter motor So, many classic VR faults taken care of! Tax till Aug, MOT October 2005 :) Cheers
  2. Put my x on my insurance and let her drive from Derby to Brighton. She really really got off on it. Around J13 on the M1 her kids were being mad in the back, and she rolled the car forward into the car in-front. I stayed calm. The car in-front, (was not a toyota), had no scratch. The point to this parable is, people go nuts when they drive 'other people's cars'. On the way back she booted my VR up a slip road so that I nearly messed myself. Ladies don't want love, girls want cars and money!
  3. Drove in convoy with a fine G60 J reg,, from m42 down to m50. Said hi in the services. Been in convoys with rados before, how civilised. Everybody else in their rep cars, then two mad people in sports cars! Saw a black VR in Penarth on Thursday. Sweet.
  4. Now sometimes see 34 mpg. For a tank its normally 29 or 30. Rados seem to be sensitive to tyre pressure, coolant and oil problems. Never leave it too long to check them. I am not the best chap to talk to. Try the threat about VAG-COM in your area. They can possibly steer you away from really big bills.
  5. Took my VR to the main dealer. No access to VAG-COm then. Changed the ISV. No improvement. Car still doing no better than, 24 mpg. In the end it was the coil pack. Paid 700 quid for a coil pack. (700 for coil pack. New plugs, ht leads and ISV for free). The Service Manager told me to take my car elsewhere.
  6. This seems to be a famiar story, in some cases. With my VR I have suffered most of the common rado problems, radiator, ABS sensor, clutch, door handle, headlight switch, Main Stealers to the tune of 3000 in two years. However others seem to report that their rado is/was as solid as a rock. Mine stood in a garage for a year, before I bought it. Whoops.
  7. Thanks chaps. The mechanic, an x vr6 owner (now antigue 911), did day it was the chain. I spoke to him today, and he said, unless it gets considerably worse, I should not go into the stealers. Haha on the stealers, Parkway Derby, I waited at the garage for half an hour for them to deliver a counter clockwise screw. It never turned up, Parkway, seemed to forget, as they didn't ring to apologise. If only this was not a common fault with main stealers. In the end I had to go and ask them for it. Was the VR owner/mechanic correct about the chain?
  8. Took my VR for its MOT test the other day. During the emissions bit, the mechanic commented that the belt was rattling too much, even I could hear it.The engine was doing 4000 rpm, and I had to agree with him. Do I need to adjust the tension of the chain? Is it in need of replacing?
  9. Beautiful purple VR yesterday am in Derby. We waved, how civilised. :D
  10. Last w end I was stopped in the street by a lady, offering me a straight swap for her Hyundai coupe 98, low miles, mint etc. We disscussed Cs, and she described how her C got totalled. (90 in a 30 zone!) She asked me where I got mine from, to which i answered, a dealer in Burton-on-trent. She was suprised , but admitted her C also came from there. I told her I paid 7K cash for a low mile car that was apparently "as sweet as a nut", later I explained that I spent to date over 3K in two years keeping the C on the road. My C had sat in a garage for a year, doing only 1000 miles the yearbefore I bought it. As a dealer in Cs and professional mechanic, Chris at Facelifts should by experience known that leaving cars standing is not good for them. He said he had checked everything. later when my radiator began to bleed, I noticed that the radiator had been messed with, as one of the nuts was missing at the top of the radiatorwhere the radiator is fixed to the bonnet. It was clear to even an amateur like myself. How had a C dealer missed this common C fault? My car I found out later, was in Autotrader, a year before I bought it for 4900 quid. No one had bought it at 43000 miles. Iit had sat for a year, and I bought it for 7000 quid cash at 44000 miles. Hmmm was i shafted? The lady with the Hyundai said that Chris had done a good job on her, as she had been pressured into a quick sale for yet again an over valued car. She paid 5500 for a 4000 car. I have two concerns here: chronic inflation on cars that need 3K spending on them. I should have bought a rough VR6 for a low price, and spent the 3K on it. :( I know that Buyer Beware is the reality, but I was ripped off.
  11. WelI I just got a new ss militek, that is great. But don't expect it to fit perfectly. Mine needs adjustment. The Kn57i is a great idea! 8)
  12. But has anyone tried to lodge a formal complaint with VW UK? My last time in the Derby branch of the stealers, left me aggressive and angry. The service Manager asked me whether "I wanted to take my car away?" as in, if you don't like it fella you can F O. (I wanted to, but needed the car to be driving sometime that month.) He suggested, that it was normal for friends to taxi each-other about, too and from work, day-in day-out, as much as necessary. Only necessary when VW borrowed my car to tinker with it 3 times, to fix one problem. He saw no reason for my upset, and told me how hard his job was. That stealer spent 700.00 finding out I needed a new coilpack. 1. Oh its the ISV sir! 2. Oh we fitted new leads and plugs, how would you like to pay? It did'nt cure the problem, but they needed changing? (My local mechanic could fit leads and plugs for a tad less than 122.00) 3. Our technician had a golf VR6, he'll sort it. Finally, while paying up, I ask for some discount given the situation? No. Didn't even offer me a coffee. Experts perhaps in standard VWs, not rados. Is there a way around these company car pirates?
  13. My 94 VR6 has a Militek ss exhaust, and a Kn57i induction kit. It sounds great, but do I need to dob myself into my insurance company? I told them I had a ss exhaust, too which they asked, "does it change the performance?". I replied with a "No". What should I admit to? Confused. :? Don't want to have a bang and have invalidated insurance. PS. My VR6 is 77k, HPi, FSH, I am the second owner, and I have pumped cash into it,(3K), resolving many normal rado head aches. How can I insure my car so that I get what its worth in the event of a crash? A sirocco owner i know got shafted by the insurance company, he had rebuilt the car, with many extras.
  14. Saw a true winner today in buxton, beaufiful "Supercharged" G60, with number plate WXI. What a car.
  15. Yes "Chavness" is spreading. Apologies to any forum Chavs? However is forum chav an oxymoron? A friend of mine has a '69 E Type and gets Classic Car. The Rado section was spot-on, however the picture was pure bilge. A mutant rado with a body kit and a bonnet vent. Oh and a new style supra rear spoiler. So the active one is not enough? Chav's car?
