Tested the fans by direct power and they work, power is coming to the electric water pump, when supplied with direct power this would come on then go off again, constant on/off. The wires have been checked where the plug melted and they are all fine. The rad switch doesnt do anything when shorted with a paper clip, fans dont turn whatsoever. Im so frustrated as to what the problem is now :( .

could be man i will give it a go. Anyone else?

cheers for that. I dont have any fuses in the engine bay, does anyone know how i can check if power is coming to the plugs that go into the fan control module? Any tests i can do? Solo

Hi, Someone please help. My problem started when the small plug that goes into the fan control module melted, also caused the fcm to smoke and it meled a hole in it. I replaced the fcm with a new one, replaced the radiator switch but still no luck. What do i check next? Someone please help as i really want to get my mk2 vr6 on the road. Before the melting happened everything was working fine. Im also 100% sure that the elctric water pump isnt working either, let the car get up to temp and the electric water pump was cold. Solo

Hi, Read through about 3000 topics to come to this conclusion. Tried to bridge the water temp sensor in the thermostat housing, tried bridging the radiator switch, nothing happens. The fans dont work at all, the electric water pump doesnt work either. Tried everything in the various topics with no luck. Im thinking from what i have read, if speeds 2 and 3 dont come on then the fan control moduel is knackered, i think i also read that this is also related to the elctric water pump so none of these things work is the fan control module is dead. Oh yes, the rad switch was replaced 2 days ago. The fans were working before so i know 100% its not them. Could it be anything else at all? Do i just buy a new fan control module? By the way if you tap (bang a wrench) the side of the fan control module the fans move ever so slightly...... Whats wrong and where?

Fantastic mate, Thanks for that.

Hi, A while ago the small plug that plugs into the fan control module melted, ordered a new plug and wired it all up correctly, checked and double checked everything is fine. Replaced the control box aswell. The fans were working before this happened. Now the fans dont work, really sick and tired of trying to figure out what the problem is. Is there a way to direct them to activate them via a switch on the dashboard. The fans have three speeds, which speeds should be used? Any help appreciated.

No problem, thanks mate. Will keep them until needed. Solo

Cheers, people. I have made my mind up, going for the 2.8. One other thing, any advantages of fitting the 2.9 inlet manifold and throttlebody to the 2.8? I have read somewhere that this will work as long as they are both obd1, which im pretty sure they are. Any gains to be had from this?

Dr, cheers mate. Nice straight awnser. Thats what im thinking about, over 15bhp go through all that headache. Its not worth it is it. Im pretty sure they are both obd1's.

Hi, This isnt much Corrado related as the engines intended for my mk2 golf. I would appreciate any help or advice you may have. Anyway here is what i need help with. I have access to two vr6's. One has a 2.8 engine and the other a 2.9. Which should i go for. After 3-4 months of standing(occasional starting here and there) The 2.8 has a proven genuine 64,000 miles on the clock. Started it up after about 1 month of standing about and it ran brilliantly. The cam chains could be heard for about all of 2 seconds and then it just went quiet and idled perfectly. A bit of smoke but after a minute this went. Now the 2.9 engine, this was rebuilt as i remember the guy asking about for rebuilders. Anyway started this up after a month and its loud. Sounds beefy as hell, cam chains could be heard for ages even when its warmed up and it was blowing out smoke for a long time. I know this engine has been rebuilt but the cam chain noise and smoke is putting me off a bit. Now which one do i go for. My older brother raced both when i was on holiday and he said the 2.9 was quicker then the 2.8. Is there really a big difference between the two, power and torque wise? Should i just go for the 2.9 and replace the cam chanins and hope all is well. The smoke could have been because of being stood around for ages. Didnt drive it as wheels were flat. What are the power difference between the 2.8 and 2.9? I know with the 2.8 it can be rebuilt if something goes wrong as oversized pistons are available but i have read that the 2.9 would need Mahle pistons etc as its already on the limit. If i end up blowing either engine i wouldnt get it rebuilt, i would just source another engine anyway. So which do i go for? Thanks
