blimey, I took it into Vindis (VW dealer) anyway for an hour's worth of look - and they just rang me up to tell me that it's a dodgy circlip and it's gonna cost £60 all in :) :) :) a real turn-up for the books or will they suddenly "find" that the whole gearbox/clutch needs replacing?!?!?!?!?

also just to say that Tino at Barr-Tech was most helpful and didn't charge me a penny for attempting to diagnose the fault. :) I'll definately be booking my service with Barr-Tech in a week or two's time
-
hmmm, Barr-Tech think that it's not worth taking it all apart because it may not actually cure the problem - so it's drive it around 'til it breaks and then worry about it!
-
thanks mate :) hopefully they can't do much worse than Vindis Sawston (VW dealer) who managed to keep my Corrado in for over 6 weeks while they scratched their heads and clocked up over 700 miles!!! and replaced pretty much everything 'cept the engine!!!! just remember, at the end of the day..... ...we all go home :D

right, I'm gonna give Barr-Tech a go - they seem happy to sort my iffy gearage linkage out :) will let you know how I get on!

Yup, I'm Cambridge too and I see quite a few. Probly yours a few times. Whereabouts are Stealth? Is there anyone nearer to Cambridge?

aaah, no sticky about this but plently of similar posts! doh! looks like it might be the linkage after all - I've had the car for over 3 years and it' always been bit hit & miss between 1st & reverse! hopefully, linkage gets sorted and I get a vastly improved drive!

Hi, my first post! :) Found you guys from discovering a Maplin receipt under my wiper!! Dinkus sent me! Anyway, I've just noticed on my K reg 16V that it's starting to feel a little odd when doing a left-to-right and right-to-left gear change ie 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd. By odd, I mean it's like it goes kinda loose and without it's usual positive "I'm in there!" type feel. Not too sure about reverse as I didn't want make it go completely before going to get it fixed! I reckon it's the linkage, well hope would be more like it - rather than the gearbox itself. Any opinions? Also, recommendations for reliable servicing near Cambridge - yep, checked the other sticky in the other forum already :)
