i take it when you mean complete.....you mean all the fuel injection, ecu, and ancillaries?? if not you probably will need them as the 1.8 16v is mechanical fuel injection whereas the 2.0 16v is more electronic fuel inj...to be honest i can't see how the kr cams would give you an increase of 20+bhp alone :? ,as the 2.0 16v(fitted to corrado's) has "only" 136bhp as standard...though admittedly that is catalysed, and if you got it to work you wouldn't need the cat as your car should be cat-free 8) i was always under the impression that the kr engine is more tuneable than the 2.0 16v corrado engine........then again i'm no mechanic :?
-
you're right its a bit of a trek......although i'll be going to AmD sometime this year, its going to be in conjunction with my mate as on our way back we'll be picking up his mk3 gti interior that will be getting the 1/2 leather treatment 8) at mj..........so it all depends on my mate and mj sorting something out :? there should be a scottish region rolling road day on the horizon, though nothing is confirmed yet(as far as i know)which will be a lot easier a trek for me...though its still the guts of 100 miles
-
if i were you then i would save the pennies and pounds for the AmD chip,as if you buy the chip off e-bay probably at best you might notice maybe smoother running(if they are compatible that is)or at worst fry your ecu
-
andy m8,forget all those e-bay chips and get yourself over to AmD,at least then the chip will be optimised to your car,i think they charge £200+vat for supply, fit and rolling-road time
-
a word of warning though,i've had a few dodgy experiences with e-bay when i've been bidding for brochures mags etc and my £1 bid has seemingly carried on increasing after every other bidders have bid and so instead of say £4-5 that i've offered for a mag its gone on to £20-£30

WHO'S ALL GOING TO GTI-INTERNATIONAL THIS YEAR???
vr6storm replied to vr6storm's topic in General Car Chat
i've been to the trl "inters" in 98 and was at last years wroughton new location......imo i think trl was a lot better,i also think as well wroughton's owners or vw-driver mag(don't know which)were seemingly charging too much for traders etc and so it didn't seem to be as big/good as when it was at trl, though it did seem easier to get to than trl.....though this new location is meant to be easier for the foreign contingent to get to......its a bit of a nightmare journey for us scots neighbours -
right enough jim  now you come to mention it.......i think it is only pre-92 cars that have the "full monty".....so that should be all g-60's and all 1.8 16v's
-
hi all, just wondering who is all going to gti-international this year and who has been before
-
fat tony............i tried it out and only seemed to get the instantaneous mpg :? though my trip meter just cycled through 1...mpg,2...oil temp,3....ambient temp ....don't know where/how they managed to get inlet vacuum, engine rpm and speed sensor impulse :?...unless of course our g-60 friends can help us out there
-
32 mpg average(70-85mph and a few !!!mph)there and on the way back......it worked out at just over £100 fuel in total................and as i had a passenger with me...we shared the driving and the fuel cost
-
LOL....4 hours just gets me into england though i've driven down to wednesbury and back in a day...left at 4am and was back at 8pm gti-international is well worth going to,and if you haven't been before then it'll be a great experience for you for going down to gti-international this year,i'm reckoning on approx 10-12 hour journey time with the usual pis-stops,food and fuel...as its the guts of 600 miles for me,last year we left at 5am and got to wroughton at 2pm and that was just over 500 miles for me
-
sorry jim but i'm 99% sure i'm not going  although i'm definately going down to gti-international this year....i'll more than likely be going in dubster82's g-60(from the yahoo e-group)..........but i'll be making a trek down to AmD at some point this year in my motor......so would be on for meeting when i do that....i'll let you know as soon as i know ........though if it ties in with the agm then it'll be a bonus :D i take it you'll be going to the agm then? and will you be going to gti-international too?
-
LOL :D
-
do you kiss your mother with that mouth!!!
-
better start saving those pennies then
-
also do you still have sound-deadening material on the underside of your bonnet?.......if thats missing that could well let too much noise back into the cabin
-
hi jim, i don't think it makes a massive amount of differance if the 2 oil types mix,its just its not recommended that you do mix them as they won't be performing at their optimum but check out this web-page and decide from there http://www.fernblatt.com/longhurst/engineoil_bible.html let me know how you get on
-
hi jim, it could also be a bit noiser than usual if you are using a too thin an oil,eg if you're using fully synthetic try using semi-synthetic that seems to work with some vr6's which can be a bit noisy on idle too...though i haven't had a problem with my vr6 being noisy and i use the synta-gold fully synthetic,so it might or might not work :? if you do change from fully synthetic to semi-synthetic make sure you don't mix them though
-
only 130 or so miles further up north :D it was'nt me btw
-
bad news about your engine if it is dead  ......................if you speak to paul allan on this forum he did a pretty similar thing that you're proposing as he converted his 1.8 16v into a 1.8 8v g-60(vr6 eater)
-
could be air/con.....as it was not a factory option on rotary heater control cars...only a dealer fit-option so they could have variations on what type of switchgear was used....of course i could be well off the mark :? or it could be the heated seats temp control...they're immediately below the heated rear window switch...though they would be graduated from setting 1-5 not max or normal :?
-
fat tony....have a look in sept 02 issue of the sprinter,as that shows you how to set it to instantaneous rather than average mpg......i've still to do mine...i'm going to try it today,so let you know how i get on
-
well done m8...she's a looker,i take it all our buying advice helped you as for the oettinger grille....not really a fan of it,luckily it doesn't look like the matching oettinger bodykit is fitted...as that really spoils the lines of the corrado, anyway the grille would be fairly rare but will also look fairly dated, get on the phone to gpc and order a vr6 grille, only £23+vat+carriage,and that will give it a fresher look 8) imo i like the alloys too btw....what are they borbet c's?
-
next time you're on the beer :drinking:.............imagine 8 pints, then you can visualise a gallon..... :lol!:
-
jim for someone soooo young  you've got good taste,if i did change my alloys i would also be choosing between azev-a's and bbs...though i prefer the rx's to the rk's or rc's
