Just ordered the flange that sits on the side of the head gasket,which has a hose pipe attached to it.Just wondering should I use some sealer or something with it or should I just bolt her on?Thanks,Paul

Checked terminals but dosnt seem to be the problem.When the fan to cool down the engine comes on thats when the light comes on even when driving.If I disconnect the fan the light does not come on so this must be the problem.Checked the whole loom in the engine bay and cant see a probem,no loose wire or touching wires.Worried its in the dash.

Sorry lads.Its a 91 so it has early interior and light switch.When I turn the car off the steering wheel is usually centered and the indicators off,not being rude but why do you ask this?does this make the parking light go on or is it vice a versa.I will take a look at it tomorrow when it is bright.Great help as usual thanks,Paul

Is the parking light switch not included in the main switch for the lights or is it completly seperate?I never had a parking light switch on the car before.What makes the parking light come on or do you have to put it on yourself.Is it easy to remove the steering wheel?

Back driving in the dark mornings and nights and having a small problem with my lights.The lights are working perfect but when I switch the ignition off and park the car up, the passanger side front and back lights come on and off every 30 seconds or so for about 5 minutes and then everything is fine.The bad thing about this is that I thought I smelt rubber or cable burning this morning coming into work,hoping its not the loom.I checked the loom yesterday and it seemed fine but getting worried now.What do you think I should start with trying to find the fault.Thanks,Paul.

Cheked the car inside out last night and found nothing.The last question I have is how much water or petrol should spill out the back of the exhaust when the car went on a of 5 miles run was then parked up and restarted 10 mins later?I noticed a bit of liquid spilling from the exhaust for about 5 mins,it didnt smell of petrol and was completly clean ie like water.Thanks for your help lads I will give it a serious look over at the week end.

Sorry lads bad on the info,its a 91 1.8 16v.Is the back of the engine where the pipes come out visable from the top or will I have to put her up on a ramp?

Yep sorry coolant leak.Filling the coolant bottle up every second day now with at least a pint of water.The thing is its now beeen like this for 4 months and the head gasket hasnt gone.The garage reckons the head gasket is ok apart from the small oil leak and it has also has passed a good drilling from the NCT or MOT.Is there any real way of telling if me head gaket is going before she actually blows?

I have tried everything at this stage and cant figure where the water is leaking.Brought it to 2 mechanics and a main VW dealer,still no joy.They changed out a flange but a week later back to square one.No water in oil,but I do know that there is a slight leak of oil from the rocker cover,head gasket or both.Started it up the other day and ran it for a while in the driveway.Looked under the car a water seemed to be coming from the back of the engine ?????? Cant figure this out at all,any help?

No oil tank but there is a small bit of oil leaking from around the gasket.The garage advised me that the oil was coming from the rocker cover,head gasket or both.

Got my raddo back after its NCT or Mot and it drinking water and coolant again like a good thing.The car failed for the handbrake but Im happy enough with that but this coolant problem is driving me nuts.Got a new part fitted to the block 2 months ago and it hasnt been using water up till now.OK I drove it pretty hard over the weekend and the test would have tested it pretty hard but does a raddo use more water as it gets older or has anyone had this intermitent problem as well?

Looking to get a space saver wheel as my spare.The spare I have is a very dodgy unsafe 15 inch.I currently have 16 inch rims,4 stud 100 pcd.I have been informed that a 14 inch space saver wheel will do the job as a spare,would this be correct? :?:

Passanger side door packed in last night.What would yee all recomend "a new handle or that repair kit you can buy on ebay"Door handle is very expensive here in Ireland so if anyone who has bought the repair kit could you let me know how you got on,thanks,Paul

Will take a look at it at the weekend.How do you mean by the engine breathing heavy and how would I go about fixing it.Same goes with the blocked pipe or pipes,is there any pipe in particular I should be looking for?Thanks once again,Paul
