  1. update.... after taking off door cards, cleaning up mirror switch, checking wires from door to body and replacing fuse 14 about a zillion times , still couldnt crack the prob.. fast forward 6 months, decided to have another crack at the prob after reading a few other threads, disconnecred the reversing light switch and, wait for it , success, woohoo. Now the prob is, cars in for mot next week and if i plug the reverse light switch back in the windows are gonna fail :( , so i've taken the reverse switch apart and cleaned it up and checked all the rear light clusters, and they all seem fine, yet it still blows the fuse if i plug the reverse light switch back on. my question now is, how do i check the wiring between the switch and the boot for a bad earth? is there a vunerable pinch point that the wiring could be earthing, and has anyone else had this prob? cheers fellas bc
  2. helo chaps, problem time... problem number 1 - windows have packed up, unless you open the door! open the door and both windows slide happily up and down, shut the door and neither window works off either switch....arse prob numero dos - central locking is...............as...................slow.......................as.............fcuk, and has random im gonna lock myself , not bother opening the pasengaer door moments. Are these two errors related or am i just double knobered, all ideas welcome, just keep them clean chiao BC 8)
  3. update - got error reset by garage, but then on the way to work accelerating down slip road 3rd gear 4-5k revs into forth foot flat down , and ,wallop, car starts dying ,revs plummet, take foot off gas, revs pick up, feather throttle engine starts dropping off again, keep foot off gas for 15-20 seconds then gingerly reapply power and its ok again, though i'm convinced the car is a lot more "flat" than it was before. I've got no error code up now, any ideas ?
  4. Ordered new maf, which arrived from poland of all places!, fitted it saturday morning, now I've still got the emision error light on the dash (little engine symbol) and when I gave it some beans last night it was spluttering like an ashtmatic over 5K rpm. No i'm guessing that once the warning light is illuminated, the car goes into get you home mode, ie it just uses a middle of the road setting for all the engine sensors and limits the rpm, hence even with new maf fitted its running kinda sh!te. question is now, - should the light of reset itself once the new maf was fitted. and if that isnt the case - if i go to a garage and get the light reset will it start running spot on again. Just to recap the car is a 02 golf 1.8 turbo. NOT the missus L plate raddo

  11. Its an L plate 2.0 16v, I reached under and twated the cat with a broom handle and the heat shieldey bit seemed ok, so I'm guessing mr mechanic is right that the cats fubar'ed, I just cant get my head around the idea that I have to buy a new down pipe if I'm replacing the Cat for the first time. So far he's quoted me £100 + vat to supply the cat alone + this new down pipe (which he says must be a genuine vw bit) + a huge bag of labour aswell. God I hate mechanics :(
  12. further on from the last rattly pussy saga have now been told by my local mechanic who up until now has been a top bloke that if the rada has never had a replacement cat (ie this will be the first ) it will also have to have a new front pipe which does not come in after market flavour only from vw, is he talking out of his arse ?? please help i' m a bird who has no clue on the matter and need some macho guidance.
  13. Donkey Kong ????? WTF  !! cheers for the info guys, keep it coming!
