Cheers Tom, is squirting out the little top return tube into the header so I guess pump's ok... It's booked into Nirro to give it the once over and a oil/fluid change tomorrow, will have them change out the Jubilee clips for proper spring clips on the 2 main cooling hoses too as I think that may have been the issue with the bottom hose. -

Doesn't appear so as comes up to temp etc... fans on... and pipe stayed attached on my trial to temp/fan on... Any quick way of testing to see if pump's failed internally? -

Well the know case for "Something shiney breaks something oily" occured again on Saturday... Taking the out-laws back to Standstead to fly home so 4 up and luggage.... throws the bottom Rad hose off the waterpump... :censored: Fortunatley I caught it by seeing the water temp rising past 110. But no coolant light despite not having any coolant left in the engine? Got it over and shut down (mfa showed 152 o/temp though  )... 3 miles from the Airport on the side of the M11! Turns out HIC didn't include break-down cover on my insurance (despite me asking them to) so I'm £160 poorer getting the car home on a flatbed. The in-laws managed to make their flight by us waving down an off-duty black cab from the hard shoulder! Re-connected the lower hose yesterday filled it with water and it started (didn't want to re-start when the recover bloke turned up). Runs ok and comes up to temp and fan kicks in, but have an air-lock somewhere :( as water light wouldn't go out! However I'm worried why it threw the pipe (jubilee still attached too!) so will get it booked into Nirro and have them check it over to make sure H-Gasket's not failed (no Mayo on cap etc) and if it's ok, change coolant, oil etc.. If it's failed... then looks like it'll be ABF time! -

:ignore: Although if my engine turns out to be "goosed" I've been told, by the other half, to buy a new car! First Dibs Lisa? -
StueyBs '95 VR6: Thread resurrection circa 2011...
vwdeviant replied to StueyB's topic in Members Gallery
you done anything to yours josh? once you sort the snail take some pics and make one 8) Nah he's too busy changing his oil! Good thread Stuey and I think it was me that said bolt on something shiney, break something oily... This time... Green wheels = Possible head gasket! :brickwall: Now get back to adding to this thread you Wheel whore! ;) -
that's because they fill it with old chip fat and wipe your old filter down with an oily rag  Mine only uses top quality "Quantum" chip fat... and makes a lovely smell when it's warm, must be the Vinegar they use as coolant!
-
Yes I can change the oil myself, not a complete "Numpty" ...but I can't do a leak-down test, Exhaust gas in collant test, or compression test... all which will tell if the HG is ok... So rather than leave it to chance I'll get the Pro's to check it over and do a fluids change at the same time if all's ok... If HG gone then it'll probably be time to ABF it! :norty:
-
Doesn't look like it John, despite the plume of oil smoke coming out the engine when I pulled over... Will get it booked into Nirro tomorrow for a check over and full fluid change! then cross all fingers....

So my rad bottom hose decided it no longer wanted to be attached to the water pump on the M11 yesterday. :epicfail: (Was taking the out-laws to Standstead to go home to DK! Only 3 miles from the airport too! ... BIG thanks to the taxi driver for stopping when we waved him down to take them the rest of the way for only £15! MASSIVE NO THANKS to HIC who didn't include break-down cover on my insurance despite me requesting it! :censored: cost £85 to get off the motorway, and another £70 to get 30 miles home! ) Anyway pulled it over pretty sharpish as soon as water climed to 110 (no warning light though?) hit the MFA as I was pulling in and oil temp was 152 as I shut down. So this morning under the car, re-attached hose, re-filled with water (all I have ATM) and starts and runs to temp, fan comes on... oil sits at 108 when fan comes on.. The point of this is a pretty stupid question... :cuckoo: I should change the oil yeah? Its got Castrol semi-synth in it (changed at Garage 6mths ago)... I'm guessing it'll be fried?

No, they will pay for themselves. Oh wait, hang on, the government doesn't actually put any of the money earned from speed cameras back onto the roads, as that's the council's obligation. D plates? CD plates surely? (corps diplomatique!) D plates not like the "Scene" D plates but those nice plates that are 3 numbers, the letter D and 3 numbers.... the ones that mean "Drive how you like you are completely immune from prosecution!" :censored:
-
From memory yes... it's there to protect them on inital start up before the engine oil reaches them... Should explain that in the instructions?
-
love that you can watch F1 practice on BBC website..

Barsteward! -
I'm off to Kensington to pinch some "D" plates... I will trump your democracy with Diplomatic Immunity! :fist: This is what the 50% rise in using the crossing is paying for then?

Had Specs on N/bound for a while now, they just never took the ones from all the roadworks down... Would be interested too as to when they went in (planning permission required?) because if it was 2/3 weeks ago a Certain Rado and a 1-series have probably been caught! :brickwall:

You doing it for money now Tom?

Yeah VAG paint is solid stuff, it would take you all day to burn it, Jap paint on the other hand (especially Honda) would melt like butter if not careful! Similar case with Alfas, I once gave a mates Alfa a once over and it removed pretty much every defect from the paint with very little effort, where as VAG cars I have polished take bloody ages!! And when you coming round to do mine Rob?
-
Exactly what I was doing with my 9a... 200 miles a week in all weathers through Sun/Rain/Ice/Snow all on A/B roads... only things that failed were Dizzy arm and cap (Arm disintergrated and took the cap with it) cost about £20, and the Back-box departed at 7am in the middle of Amersham, up hill.. noisy! Touch wood apart from "Service Items" (inc discs/pads/etc) all I've had to change is a Rad and some of the rubber Coolant pipes that had come to End of life. This is of course discounting all the shiny stuff I have bought! :norty: Not bad for a car that set me back £1200 4 years ago, when a smiliar mileaged (90ish-k) VR/G60 would have set me back 3-4times that! :gag: TBH yes VR's "sound nice", and yes "Played with" G's are quick (Eh Lisa?) but for all that I love the sound of a 4-pot with exhaust and intake mods at above 4000rpm... If you get a well maintained 16v and service it regularly, (not scrimping on parts, try to use VAG where possible) then they are very reliable, and quite economical motors... And it doesn't matter what flavour you end up with, it will always make you smile as you walk out the front door! I'm probably a bit sad but I still walk a little way from the house and just look at mine when I pop out for a fag, even at night! :luvlove:

Your Momma! :fist:  You'll have these for sale in 3-4 months Karl, you can't keep wheels/seats that long! Oh and you have a "charged" PM Karl... :ignore: These seats in the pic are the Dinkies no? So that will be another set of "Uber-Scene-Rare" Recaros for sale soon! :fondle:

Yeah forgot to mention the 72 ex Austrian Postal Van Bay I had.. but as that ended up with me getting plod involved to access the RAF-run business park (ex Airbase) to recover it from the "restorer" who was in fact breaking it.. probably best forgotton... Hopefully goes into Di-Natek for paint next week! Still need the four allen bolts for the rear spoiler though so I can put on my new one... -
 and great seats they are, its only taken about 5 years to get a set of those particular recaro's. They ARE nice Karl, and they look the Bollox hidden in my spare room! The cats thank you for their new beds too! :epicfail: Joke!
