I ll do that mate, the car seems to be running fine at the minute but I am just afraid that I will be doing damage to the engine
-
cheers mate that is definetley worth looking at, if that was the problem how much are you looking at? That wouldnt affect the fan coming on though would it?
-
they never said mate, any thoughts if it could be something else?
-
I put it into a garage to check the oil light as they were intermitently coming on, and the engine was getting really hot in traffic so much so the tappets started to get really noisey, then reset themselves a couple of days later. The garage said there was an air lock in my heater, and high hydrocarbons in the coolant system. They said that the fan wasn't coming on soon enough or strong enough to cool the engine down, which they said is the likely cause for the gasket to go. The oil sensors were on the wrong way round for some daft reason so thats sorted now.

My headgasket has gone, my mate has replaced about 6 on vw polos, he says he can on mine but has never done a 16v engine before, is there any major differences, does anyone have any helpful advice, cheers.

Driving into work this morning, then started to become noisey as it always runs quiet. I stopped and lifted the bonnet and the tappets were really noisey, then the oil warning light came on. The warning light has been coming on every now and then but I just put it down to faulty sensors. ANy thoughts, I was thinking oil pump has gone, any recommendations on garages near Urmston in Manchester, any help would be great. Chay

I seem to have a similar problem, but it startsfine when parked on the flat even when it has sat for a week , however I park on a hill at work with the engine facing down and sometimes when I crank her up it starts no probs, other times its as if the engine is already choked and it takes a few turns to catch, it clears and idles fine, strange, any thoughts?
-
yeah the switch lights up but still cant see out the rear window, is this a sign of the switch being knackered?
-
do you know if there is a seperate fuse for the rear window heater.... where did you get your switch?
-
has this happened to anyone, any ideas on what might be the problem, cheers.
-
just had the feedback from the ECU read and emissions test and it all comes back fine.....any more ideas!!
-
cheers mate, where abouts are you in manchester, will keep you in mind if I need any other work doing
-
alright mate, I am getting poor fuel economy, so I was looking at getting a gas test and ecu read out to see what the problem is.

just moved to the area (urmston) and looking forsome recommendations on mechanics local to me, had a look else where in the forum and the nearest recommended garage is in stockport, are there any recomendations for one closer to me?

yip it's based on the mfa, however I am only getting about 330miles to the tank and also the exhaust is all black soot, this is a sign of running rich?
