  1. I just picked up a CDA-7949 on eBay for 200.00 US and its a really nice head unit. Pre-amp only 4v on the RCA's, copper chassis etc. I am not going to bash your choice but the CDA 9855 is made in China and Alpine has truly sold out. The biggest complaint about the 7949 was that it did not play MP3 discs. It will control the CHA-S634 changer which will play MP3's. Food for thought. Unless you have to have IPOD capability I would recommend getting an older Alpine unit that was actually made in Japan. The other reason I went old skool is that I dont have one spot of chrome or brushed aluminium on my VR6's dash or instrument faces and the 7949 being dark coloured blends in better.
  2. You know us Yanks, we just lean our guns out of our windows and carefully aim at the thugs breaking into our cars.
  3. I bought some led bulbs from the guy in the UK on Ebay they were blue and they fit but you have to twist them to get power to them. IE I assembled the damned cluster and put it back into the dash with one that was not turned far enough so out it came again. I also thought about using two 3" Cold Cathode UV lights but I just do not think there is enough clearance for them. I have had to buy a spare cluster ($65.00) because taking mine in and out so much has screwed up my MFA and my speedo. I thought I would warn everyone that these parts are truly delicate. I also did the reverse glow kit from DDI on my MFA and odometer and just kept it Green numerals with a black background. The results were fantastic. I wanted it to match my alpine stuff which it does nicely.
  4. I have had good luck with these fellas and they offer the UV leds pre-wired with resistors. May be a little pricey on the shipping for you guys across the pond? Not having to solder and heatshrink is a good thing sometimes! http://www.oznium.com/prewired-leds
  5. Check the plunger pins on you door jams. They may be really loose or the wires my be coming unattached?
  6. I thought about those DDI gauges and about the needles not glowing. I was going to try using 3 12v 5mm or 10mm UV leds with the DDI gauges. The effect should be that they make your needles glow (if painted with red UV paint and still retain the white color that the gauges offer.) If I can get the time to do this I will post pics. If anyone else would like to try it please post some up!
