Just had the same problem with my 1.8 16v, thought it was the head gasket, then went to the garage to get it checked, they said there wasn't anything wrong that they could find, they ended up changing the water pump and thermostate now she's run fine again.

Alright Chaps. I've got a 1.8 16v corrado, which had a small problem the other week whilst driving down the A303...... the head gasket went. :( Well i thought it had, the water temp shot up to over 110 and the light came on so i slowed quickly, and then bout 30 seconds before i stoped, the oil buzzer and light came on. I turned the engine off and waited bout 30 minute, and checked the oil, which was still full but all the water had gone ( 3wks previous i hade done and oil change and water change). and the pipe going in to the engine from the top of the radiator had swollen quiet big. So i called the AA  he put more water in it and let it run for about 15 minutes and the water boiled really quickly, even though the car temp and his gucci laser temp both said it was bout 85c, he the checked for any exhaust gases in the cooling sytem and the wasn't any, He was really confused, he thought it was the head gasket but there were no obvious signs pointing to it. :? i've had a search on the forum with not much luck so My questions are......... Has anyone had this problem before? What is it the problem likely to be? If it is the head gasket what parts will i need to change and roughly how much will the cost? And Where can i find written or pictorial guide to changing the head gasket so that i dont screw it up? Cheers for your help in advance. Lee

Hello, Could anyone help me on this? Couple of weeks ago, i went to change the spark plugs and found oil on the plug in the third cylinder and the HT lead but the other 3 were fine, i had the rocker cover gasket changed. it's running really bad, and doesn't idle at all just seems like its staving it self, also the clutch was being a pain as they always are, but whilst i was on holiday, the clutch went through the floor, and is still on the floor, i think the cable has snaped but i'm not 100% sure, could anyone shed some light on the situation, cheers for your help. Hello, i've got a small problem if anyone could help, i got a couple of passat rear handles for a 94 - 96 car, from euro car parts, and went to fit them this morning, i was quite happy as my new steering wheel turn up to, (which went on nicely and looks mega). only to find that the locating screw on the side of the door doesn't match up with the new handle its about 7mm to the left of the hole, and it doesn't open the door, the handles themselves have a more rounded edge. so my questions are, (if any one can help) 1. did any one have problems with the part no. from the sticky that stevemac left? ( cos VW are being anal saying that if they are wrong they can't take them back). 2. do i have to change the mechanism as well? 3. did anyone have problems with the locating screw? 4. do the handles look exactly the same ( excluding the lock) as corrado one's? or does anyone have the handles and mechanisms for sale? cheers all lee

Thats what i thought, i did the brakes last weekend drove for guildford to salisbury and then around that area for the week the i drove back, and it was then that the started to play up, i did about 200 miles and wasn't happy with how effective they were so yesterday i bleed them again, and they just went completely. but there has been no leaks, and when i dod bleed the again there was no air in the system, what a bloody pain in the arse......

hay all, This may seem like an odd question I have a '90 1.8 16v in red, and it has leather interior. Was wondering if this is common, because i haven't seen anything lower the a VR6 with a leather interior. what do you think or Know? cheers

I've bleed them twice, when i drove it there was no brakes what so ever, the pedal went to the floor and the car kept on going, then occationally they would bite slightly, but nothing else.

can any one help, I've just changed all my pads and discs, only to now have a problem..... I HAVE NO BRAKES!!!!! I've been told that it is probably the master cylinder has lost pressure and is sucking in air, is this likely? has this happened to anyone else? if so does anyone know how much its gonna cost to repair? cheers

cheers, i think i might have to look in to the G60's, the thing is though looking on some sites, it not the much more expensive to go for the brembo max discs, instead of the G60 vented discs,

Can anyone help? I've got a 'rado 1.8 16v, and am looking at getting brembo brakes, would i need to get the full GT junior Kit (discs, pads, calipers, and new hoses) or can i just use the sport line kit (Discs and pad) and use the standard calipers. would i need to get both front and rear, or can i run standard ones on the rear. can anyone recommend anyother barkes? cheers
