hi guys thanks for both your replys, want to vw dealers and the muppet behind desk got me the wrong sender, he has got me the guage sender instead of the ecu one. Can any1 tell me weather i can get (number 3 in the picture from motor factors or is it dealer only. The guage sender he got me was like £26.00 so am gonna take it back and either swap it for the right one or get me money back. Also can you get the thermo time switch non-gen or is that just dealer only thanks for any help thanks kenno

Hi people Was hoping some 1 on here may be able to help us, i have a 1.8 16v which i have not had for long, i bought it with the intention of doing it up. Right since having the car it just does not seem to want to start from cold, my mechanic friend is doing work on it at the moment, he has done the head gasket and a few other bits fan switch, thermostat etc. This is all fitted now but he says he is having problems getting it started from cold, he said he can get it started when setting the timing really high and it will start straight away when warm. He advises getting a temperature sensor and plugs and leads. Was wandering if anyone on here knows of any other known things to go for on aswell. I cant seem to find a 16v temp sensor on GSF do they not list one thanks kenno

so the bosses are the same then mate, no issues with power steering or anything, thanks

Hi People Was wandering if any 1 new if a mark 1 golf cab (K 1992) after market wheel and boss would fit my Corrado 16v (J 1991). I read somewhere that the boss would not fit as rado has power steering and cab does not, is that true Thanks Kenno

ok, will give it some thought on weather to attempt it myself or, just get me mate to do it, or help me do it, he is a mechaic are the non-vag gasket kits any good, and do i have to replace the headbolts once they are removed. is this the only thing i would need if i was to buy from GSF PART NUMBER 11490 CYLINDER HEAD GASKET SET CO 1.8 16V 4/89 >7/91 £39.60 Thanks Kenno

no mate, there aint no white residue in the oil oil filler cap area, have just this minuite took it off and checked. Strangly though i have just started car up again after it being left for a couple of hours and there was no smoke at all. BUT after approx 4-5 mins it was back with avengence. So there is a possibility it could just be this heat exchanger. And not the head gasket but then it could be both or just the headgasket . If it were the heat exchanger would it just be a case of replacing it with a new 1. Would i need any special tools to do the head gasket or would a socket set do it. I am not that mechanically minded but will give it a go

it does seem to be white, but with the headgasket would it smell really strong of fuel, how can i test the oil cooler/heat exchanger  thanks
-
so the smoke will smell quite heavy of fuel if it is the headgasket, what other signs will tell me weather its the headgasket, white residue in the oil is that headgasket. is it a big job thanks kenno

the car had been running approx 5 mins, but that makes no difference at all, it does this all the time

Hi Hope you guys will be able to help me and give me some advise on whats causing my 1.8 16v corrado to smoke so badly. To me it seems to be overfueling as the smell from the back is just a fuel smell, and if it was oil it would smell quite bad. The car is ready for its MOT and i don`t think its gonna pass when its smoking so bad like this. Is there any thing i can adjust to stop the suspected overfueling. I have been really sad and recorded it, am not sure if you can host vids on here but will try. I read on a different post that it could be the temp switch but i have disconnected this and it made no difference, or would it no make any difference just disconnecting it Any help is appreciated Thanks Kenno
-
just ignore me guys, i want signed in so it did not show it duh
-
could you post this again, i can`t seem to see it, i might be blind though but could you post it again just incase i aint. i have similar problem, overfuelling accept you can actually visably see the smoke coming out the back, its not oil its definatly over fueling, any help with this would be great thanks kenno

sorted it mate seems like the ignition switch was firing the starter motor but not the coil, i think thats how it works don`t it. I read somewhere on here about that. Anyway thanks for letting me no about my local vag dealer mistakenly giving me the price of the lock assembly. Thanks Kenno
-
typed that in the same minuite mate lol thanks again, gonna try the switch and go from there
-
jonny 5 alive thanks alot just rang vag up again, they seem to have priced me up the whole lock assembly, which was £50 quid, the switch is only £18.00 or something gonna go pick one up now as they keep them in stock, nice one thanks kenno
