Sorry, the DTC reader just displayed an "Error" message when I selected "Read ABS". The notes say: switch ignition off, remove reader and insert again and turn ignition on. Tried this and still get an "Error" message - it's as if it can't communicate with it.. which is why I asked can an OBDII reader talk to an OBDI ECU through an ODBII port on my late VR6?
-
checked and got an OBDII port - banged in my reader (OBDII portable unit - £30 from germany) and it read everything (engine/AT) but gave error message on ABS - couldn't read it... Do you reckon this could be due to the fact the car is OBDI (but has later OBDII port) and my reader is only designed for OBDII cars..?
-
I'll get the torch out later and have a screw-driver handy just incase! Merci

Is it in the same place like on a manual - by the gear gaiter?
-
I tried the wide 225/45/17 and they went on ok (completely filled the arches - looked nice).. but rubbed when going over bumps/pot holes etc. There was some catching on full lock aswell... I know you told me so.. but I had to try! Bought a new set of 205/40/17 and all is sweet again - selling the 225/45/17 on the bay - recoup some costs.
-
Well fcuk that then... I might aswell just sell them on.. Damn, they were such a clean set!

Tyre size effects insurance...? First time I've ever heard that? I'll try it and see what it's like? I can always just swap the tyres over? Thanks.
-
I normally wouldn't, but the spare set only cost me £140 (yes thats right - 4 genuine Audi TT alloys [no marks] and michelins [2/3mm tread]).. so at that price might just be worth the chance and drive extra careful...? I'll swap them over tonight and give it a test.
-
I have a set of 17" audi TT alloys on me VR and have the more friendly 205/40/17 proxie's on them. I've managed to find a cheap set as a spare but they have 225/45/17 michelin's... my VR has only been lowered 30mm (standard shocks).. anyone see any problems with them going on (use them through winter)? I'm not bothered about not having full lock on the front.. just if they might rub on the back..?

For a £10 mod, even if it makes a 0.1% difference - it i'll do?
-
I just bought a golf VR6 one from the bay for a tenna (inc postage) - one end clipped on and modded the grill a bit to get the other end to clip and glued it down just to make sure!
