answer b) is the correct one. I was in the same boat as you mate and the best advice i can give you is find an engine with less miles, i happen to have a close to complete 16v engine if you want it, but its done 127k you'd probably find one with less miles if you looked around. it would save you money in the long run

The older passat's are the same i think, and so are the older Seat's i used one off a Seat Toldeo (not sure how you spell it). If you want one without a lock in it you can use one off a rear door, thats if you've remote locking

i've trid dismantling the unit once before and it doesn't seem to like it. i tried to fix it for a couple of hour and ended up completly breaking it, in the end i had to buy a new one
