well i have just been told there is a sensor that contral the coil under the dibby iz this rite????

i have a 1.8 corrado , on the way back from buying the car the water pump went. today i have replaced the water pump and cam belt , but when turning over it will not start. I have traced it down the a spark going to the coil but nothing coming out of it, due to this i now have replaced the coil but its still not starting. advice and help please
