To make this clear, does the engine always turn over when you turn the ignition key, with it sometimes firing up and sometimes not? Or does it sometimes turn over and sometimes not (with just a clicking sound) being heard when you turn the ignition key?

Thats great info thanks Keith. So if I have enough clearance, I assume I cant just pull on that shaft and expect it to slide out because it would slide out of its own accord once the engine was running. So is there something I have to undo to slide that shaft out? (Like remove the oil pump so the gears dont engage it?) Any ideas? Thanx Andy

Thanks for the reply but I knew that it wasnt related to any timing issues I just wondered if a bearing failure was common? And if a bearing change involved having the crank out? Does anyone have of an exploded diagram of the internals of a 9A engine? :? Thanks again

Hi all....need some advice if poss....(Have searched at length but can't pinpoint the answer) Ive just replaced the head gasket and water pump on my 16V 2L (9A) Corrado, Its obviously getting a new timing belt and tensioner whilst in bits but when checking the freeness of rotation on the intermediate shaft pulley it feels ok most of the time but there are moments when it feels like its 'grabbing' and a little stiff. I have taken this pulley off and undone the two bolts and removed the oil seal and housing hoping I would find a bearing on the end but alas nothing. So heres my questions..... 1. How freely should this shaft turn or will it always feel slightly tight 2. Are these prone to bearing failure? Is this an engine strip down job Crank out etc? 3. Does this shaft drive the oil pump? I assume it does Any help much appreciated!! :D Cheers guys

Firstly Hi everyone, new to Corrado ownership as Ive always had Mk 2 Golfs but can safely say Im well hooked! I bought a lovely 92 Corrado 2.0 16v 3 weeks ago but it has some running issues. Someone has disconnected the cold start injector (As well as some other bits). When the injector is connected it immediately over fuels and dies. A cold start injector should only kick in for 8 seconds or so upon start-up is that correct? Does anyone know what triggers the cold start pulse (Hoping it might be a timer as opposed to an ECU problem). If anyone can help me that would be great...This is going to be the first of a few engine management questions :scratch: Andy
