  1. VR6 | Storm Grey | Sheffield Price: £3500 Description: COMPLETELY ORIGINAL VOLKSWAGEN CORRADO VR6 WITH LOW MILEAGE AND IN GREAT CONDITION. Although not quite mint, this Corrado is one of the nicest you are likely to see for sale. It has covered just under 90,000 miles only and is Storm Grey in colour - one of the best, in my opinion - and greatly admired. It has been mine for three and a half years but is getting little use and so I have decided to sell it. It has been completely reliable, only requiring a new fuel pump and the usual servicing since I have owned it. Very attractive Recaro interior, and it still retains the supplied First Aid pack, unopened. The spoiler comes up at about 60 mph, as it should, and the sun roof tilts and slides. I have found this to be much more economical than I expected, easily attaining 30 + mpg during normal mixed driving and reaching 38 mpg if driven with restraint on a long run. There are a few faults but nothing to get too excited about: the fuel gauge only goes up to half full even when the tank is full. However, it stays at half until the level drops below this and then behaves normally. I think the float probably got misaligned when I renewed the fuel pump as it was working fine previously. Probably an easy fix, although it has never bothered me. The roof rubbers are slightly perished. The passenger window only opens about half way and sometimes needs help to raise it - it probably need cleaning out and lubricating. The ABS light has suddenly started to light up. This has only happened since I stored it last winter and I suspect a dirty contact somewhere but have not had a chance to investigate. I am open to sensible offers. Please note it is MOT'd until next March (and has only covered a few miles since it passed) and taxed until the end of this month (September). Road testing welcome if you can get here to see it before the end of the month. I'm afraid I'm having all sorts of problems uploading images.   2. YES!!! I finally cracked it (not literally). I don't know if it will be of any interest but I changed to my left hand and, somehow or other, seemed to get a better grip on the pump body and was probably coming at it from a better angle. Anyway, it suddenly shifted. Many thanks for the advice and encouragement - you guys are great. One last thing, and then I'll leave you in peace. I've seen some fuel pumps advertised for about £100 but they appear to be just the innards - the long cylinder that fits inside the pump body. Has anybody fitted one of these and, if so, were there any problems in doing so? It would avoid having to swap the sender unit over as well as saving a few quid. Thanks again, Chris
  3. RW1 - I've already looked at your illustration tried to follow the instructions given (by you and elsewhere) to turn the pump but it just won't budge. I can only get one hand in the tank (and perhaps I have a weak grip!). Thanks for getting back so quickly, though. I'll just have to persevere I guess but I've already spent over an hour strying to dislodge it. :brickwall: Chris
  4. My fuel pump has packed up and I am having difficulty removing it from the tank. Having read several threads on this I was assuming that once I had taken off the securing ring (hammer and screwdriver job) the next part was easy. But it's not. This is a '94 VR6 and the pump body is white. I can get my hand around it but turning it anti-clockwise as instructed seems to be impossible. There is a small amount of movement (it is slightly loose) but it refuses to turn. Should I be pressing and turning, pulling and turning, or what? Is there a special tool for this, or can I improvise something? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Chris

    OK, I've established it's the fuel pump (moving the wife didn't work, The Dude). I know this has been covered before on the forum but I'm still confused. The main agents want £251 for a new one (without fitting) but they are on eBay for just under £100. Am I missing something? Do I need to buy a separate sender unit, for example? And do the parts still vary from car to car or has the replacement part been standardised for all VR6's? I'm quite happy to try to fit this myself but don't want to end up with the wrong part. The other option would be to find someone in the Sheffield area who knows what they are doing and would take it on for a sensible price. Anyone? Thanks Chris

  8. My VR6 has a continuous high-pitched whine that seems to come from the exhaust region(!), under the car and towards the back. Not engine bay, anyway. It's more noticeable at slow speeds and when ticking over at rest (but that might be because road noise drowns it out at higher revs) and seems to build up in volume as the car reaches normal operating temperature. Again, more noticeable if the windows are open. Everything else seems OK and the car runs well. 84,000 miles covered. Any ideas? Thanks, Chris

  11. True story. Driving up the M6 at about 5am one fine morning and decided to stop at the Fortran Tower services. Drove into the car park; there were three other cars parked. Stopped in a bay about 100 yards from anyone else. A few seconds later some bright spark pulled into the space next to me, opened his door to get out and BAM! Hit my car. Was he blind, drunk or just a simpleton? Who knows? The good news is that I was in my wife's beaten up Golf at the time. :roll:
