2.0 16v | Red | Leamington Spa Price: £1500 Description: Hi Guys (and gals), Have found a BMW I really wanna buy! I bought the Rado in 2009 and have had a lot of fun, proud moments, still love it to pieces hence the price. I know it's old and has done a few miles but there's a lot of life in it still and the bodywork is awesome. The red had turned to pink and I had a detailer give her a once over last summer - the photos were taken right after this was done (August 2012). I know there are other Corrado's around at a lower price but this is rust free, both underneath and the bodywork. And apart from the wheels it's standard. Since I took ownership there's been a bit of work (to be expected with a 21 year old) ;) I'll keep adding to this list as I look through receipts. Mot till August 2013. It's a crossover car as well, I haven't seen another like this... Late exterior but early interior. Cambelt Top Mounts and bearings Front Engine Mount Bushes, bearings, dampers Usual things like Plugs, HT leads etc Front discs and pads Just done Driveshaft and CV joint. Radiator top house Waterpump housing 162k Miles Powerflow exhaust system Laserline central locking and immobilisor 3 new tyres BBS 17inch Alloys Pretty much everything else is standard There's a before and after photo below (machine polish) ... awesome!!!

Cheers dude but mine's a late exterior. ---------- Post added at 9:52 AM ---------- Previous post was at 9:50 AM ---------- It's my passenger side, think I'm leaning towards new headlights rather than replacing just the glass. My reflectors are tosh so figure it's a good chance to find some non-yellow reflectors!
-
Hmmm, let me see if I can dislodge the broken glass and figure this out!
-
Hi billcor! I've just seen your post but yeah!!! That's the one! Can not believe the difference, the best £100 I ever spent.
-
let me try find your ad again dood. you not have any other takers yet?!
-
Hi guys, a rock's smashed my headlight on a motorway and now I need some new ones! -Bulb's still fine but the glass has fallen off... I presume I need to buy a new set, and asap!!! Would appreciate any help as I currently cant drive in the dark! Paul
-
Need headlights as mine both smashed, any help? thanks!

Hi Guys, Been a long while since I've been on here but I've started to plough some cash into my 2l 16v, just about to get it machine polished and wondered if anyone can direct me to some before and after shots of work they've done/had done/seen ... it's a red/pink '92! Cheers! Paul

I sorted the lumpy running and poor starting issue (after left standing for a while) - just the fuel filter. God knows how old it was, but replaced and sorted. Cheers!
-
My splutter problem was fixed with a new Lambda, and my starting problem's fixed with a fuel filter... sorted! Thanks to all who suggested!

16v running issues not wanting to rev or drive!
shuttlepants replied to cheddarcheese's topic in Engine Bay
Possibly fuel filter? - I had starting/driving (splutter) problems if I left her standing for a while... changed the fuel filter and the problems disappeared. - take a look underneath and you can probably hazard a guess as to how old this part actually is. If it's rusty (like mine was) - change it! -
Let me know if the Lambda's at fault! I defo flooded the engine last time I had the starting problem, which to me say's that fuel is getting through ... do you still think the fuel pump could be the source? - Someone else on here asked about the fuel filter too, though mine's pretty old, I'm not sure how this could effect starting after sitting for a while?

2l 16v wont start after sitting for a few days!?

A follow up for anyone interested, - and in the hope someone can help me learn in the process! I Changed the spark plugs at the weekend (1st time)... in prep for leaving the car standing for a week, next week (in the hope that this'll give me a stronger spark and the bugger will start when i get back to the airport!) - I've got to say, she runs much better now, feels a lot smoother in low revs, more pull on acceleration (though every time I put my foot down I think this anyway, always surprises me!) and I think the MPG's up too (what do you guys reckon, is this possible, or am I talking rubbish?) The characteristics on starting have changed though, she still starts first time, but idles rough and revs jump up and down for 20 seconds or so (when cold - otherwise she's fine and idles smooth from the off)... any ideas what this would suggest? Ta! -
Haha, imagineering at work there Boost Monkey?! Think I'll try the paint thing first, see if that helps!
-
I know this topic's discussed in older posts, I just wondered if anything new had come up, stupid question really... Chrome paint's surely got to be an improvement on my current situation! Cheers Carrots

Ello ello, Now, I guess most of you know how effective the standard headlights are. After 20 years of use, the reflectors on my 1992 16v are past their best... I can tell this as they are clearly yellow (without the lights turned on), no wonder I can't see a thing in the dark! I'm guessing the only option for me is to replace the headlight unit? - It must be a common thing and experienced by many of us - any recommendations on parts/suppliers or 'alternative methods' would be much appreciated! thanks!

Yo Wullie, it always cranks, just wont fire... last time I had the problem (4/5 days without being used), I put the jump leads on and hooked her up to a BMW, had to crank her for about an hour before she fired. I had to apply the throttle or else the engine would cut out... when warmed up she'd idle ok, but I have to do a fair few miles on the road before it feels normal to drive again (lack of power in low revs and lumpy) - but once done, it's perfect... until the next time she's left standing for a few days (next week, arghhhh)! cheers man, ---------- Post added at 08:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:38 AM ---------- Not sure on the battery - I got the car 18months ago, so maybe 2-3 years old battery (but cant confirm) - i just presumed, as she wont fire even with the jump leads (for ages), that the battery probably isn't the problem!

Hi Guys! Difficult one when people aren't replying... I've really struggled to find a garage that know what they're talking about. So, I can't fix the bugger, and loads of mechanics can't either... hmmm. I had starting problems but turned out it was the Lamda (DG Autotech fixed, ta very much), now i have starting problems if I don't run the car everyday... new leads/injectors and a good clean of the dizzy, but still the same thing. Gonna try change the plugs this weekend (newbie) and see if that helps ... a nice easy one for people... ANYONE recommend a particular brand/type of Plug (I know nothing, so keep it simple - pretty please)! I just know I'm gonna be stuck when I get back to Luton airport in a couple of weeks time, when my Rado wont start! 2.0 16v 1992 Cheers!

2l 16v wont start after sitting for a few days!?
shuttlepants replied to shuttlepants's topic in Engine Bay
Hi David, Cheers for the reply man! Don't suppose you can recommend any garages in the local area (i'm in Warwick/Leamington), I used DG Autotech but need to find someone else (they're too busy!) Fuel filter will be atleast 18months old. Not sure how to check fuel pressure ... though last time i had this starting problem i think i flooded the engine (so fuel is defo getting though)? thanks again! -
Afternoon all! - any pointers on this one would be great! She start first time every time - if I use her every day. If I don't start her up over a 3 - 4 day period, she wont fire at all. Battery seems fine and cranks without problem. I have to put the jump leads on and turn her over for about an hour until she fires. - then apply 'some gas' until she's warmed up, then it's back to normal and runs sweet! - A problem though, because I cant go anywhere without her! haha, but as I'm off on holiday in a couple of weeks... will be a problem when I get back to the airport! Anyone have any suggestions for this one? - think the spark plugs are years old, not sure that this can be a problem though. - had new leads and injectors last year - cleaned dizzy - New lamda done
-
Yo, Sounds like a problem I was having last year... spluttered like crazy in low revs but worked fine when warmed up... was a problem starting sometimes. I changed dizzy and cap etc but no luck... turned out it was the lamda... a cheap fix too. Now i have another problem, She start first time everytime - if I use her every day. If I dont start her up over a 3 - 4 day period, she wont fire at all. Battery seems fine and cranks without problem, I have to put the jump leads on and turn her over for about an hour until she fires. - then apply 'some gas' until she's warmed up, then it's back to normal and runs sweet! - A problem though, because I cant go anywhere without her! haha, Anyone have any suggestions for this one? ta, Paul

Hi there, how easy is the installation? - and are there any possible issues with my central locking system etc? cheers!
-
Hi Guys, any help with this one... yesterday i pulled the door handle to open my drivers door, it clicked, and now wont open from the outside. The central locking works and you can see the pin moving up and down, and I can also open the door fine from the inside... but not from the outside, it's like the actual handle is not connected to anything anymore! - any hints or tips?! thanks!!!

Killed my car going through water.. help! ** FIXED **
shuttlepants replied to Jim's topic in Engine Bay
Hey Guys, I'm having similar symptoms with my 2 litre 16v, cause by a big puddle earlier this year, turned out to be the lamba - replaced and the problem went away! - BUT, now we have a little trouble again, coughs splutters and backfires when i accelerate hard, but runs nice and smooth if driven sensibly - of course it runs fine in the high rev range anyway, but now I'm a bit confused about the return of the symptoms - surely not the lambda again?!!? -
I have the same problems as described... i don't suppose you managed to find a fix did you? ta!
