well as I'm just returning to the forum I thought it best to start a build thread and share my plans/ideas for my new motor. I The latest R to hit my driveway was an early 30th birthday gift from the wife. I owned one when we first met and after starting a family we sold it as it was unpractical for my pregnant wife to get in and out of. Now we have decided baby making is complete the mrs thoughtfully bought me a project to work on.(best gift EVER!) On the books as a g60 (but unfortunatly a 1.8 16v under the hood) in purple she sits proudly on my drive way. on my first test drive there were a number of quick fix issues I got straight onto. The rear active spoiler wouldn't go down but would come up both from the button and at speed however it stuck up once there. after stripping the mech it was apparent the microswitch for the retracted limit had burnt out and a replacement was sourced and fitted (part number from maplins is in the exterior forum section if anyone needs it) problem 1 solved. the next issue was the lack of radio. it came on but no sound. to my dismay after pulling the head unit out i found that the loom had been chopped to pieces and to make the radio look as thiough it worked the seller had tapped a live and a ground from the glove box light!. i have sorted the audio side fo teh loom but unfortunatly th power side doesnt work still. I have checked the fuses and can find nothing wrong so will have to drop the dash out trace the wiring back and see why i have no live or switch live from the original wiring. the car had no power steering due to the pump being dead. a new pump was sourced at a bargin £10 from a mk4 golf pd130 engine (they look slightly different but mounting and hydraulic fittings are identical as well as pulley position and mounts. this fit straight into the car and hey presto power steering! next to go was the rear wiper just a delete and blank for now untill she goes for bodywork where I'll have the hole filled properly. Overall shes a pretty clean car with a few scratches and one small rust bubble at the bottom of the rear window which will need attention. Im more than pleased with it and cant wait to bring it back to an amazing spec and clean her up! This is how she currently sits on my driveway as I'm currently at work she'll sit in this position for the next 3 weeks unless the wife fancys a spin out when she gets bored of the l200! future mods I hope to achieve are: vr6 conversion front bumper plate recess smooth. interior retrim (usual drivers bolster cloth has gone although the spong is still good!) repair the wiring ( behind the dash and fuseboard is a shables of cut twist and taped alarms and immobilisers) coilovers and polly bush replacements full respray (I would like to keep the original colour) Thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated

Cheers david. I've owned one previously. the car was bought by my wife as a 30th present and was suppose to be a g60 (it is on the log book) but clearly a valver under the bonnet. where can I find the engine code for it as I'm unsure on if its a 1.8 or a 2ltr and also what car its come from with it not being the original engine.

B4 moonroof conversion as my original sunroof was dead !
-
Maplin SPDT miniature microswitch Code: N95AQ This microswitch is a direct replacement tried and tested by me today. It's about .5 mm smaller all round but still fits snuggly into the spoiler mech and works perfect for future reference !
-
De-wipered the rear window. Removed car phone areil from rear window re-soldered and heat shrank radio loom as previous owner has for some unknown reason cut off the plugs.
-
Don't suppose you still have the part number for them do you Ben? Save me stripping the old one out to compare sizes in the shop. Cheers Phil

Nice to see a fellow teessider here. I'm just back into a corrado after an 8 year break will be good to see another one in the area there don't seem many about here at all !! -
Well I'm back boy and girls. After last posting on this forum around 8 years ago the Mrs has kindly bought me a 1.8 16v c as a surprise present. Unfortunately she bought it believing it was a g60 (as this is what it is on the log book) I'm assuming it started out life as one but now sadly only had a 1.8 16v (I think, I'm unsure on the differences 1.8 to 2.0 ltr?) So slowly learning the ropes again and glad to be back in my favorite car of all time! Build thread to begin as soon as I work out how to upload photos from my phone to this forum ha ha

Swift kid. Ildoes yours whine at all? Mines a touch loud but I am running the wrong power steering fluid. Gonna flush it out n put the green stuff in tomorrow see if it quietens down. Could be a shot 2nd hand pump but I'm hoping not. Works perfect just a touch noisey
-
Pd150 engine code bud. But apparently pretty much all mk4 engines run off the same pump from what I can gather
-
Well gents mk4 pump direct replacement straight in perfect fit. Had a nightmare removing the pulley from the old pump ended up having to grind off the bolts but after that no probs at all works a treat .
-
Cheers veedubbed and Jim going to drop the old one tonight and compare the shafts and mounting points. Prior to removal just eyeing them up they look almost identical for size and position but that might change once I have both in my hand. I'll let you know how I get on as a mk4 ps pump set me back £10 from a friend or the local scrappy want £20 bit of a price difference from the 3 figures wanted online for a corrado original

Hi all its looking like the power steering pump has gone the distance on my 1.8 16v c I've been given a freebie from a friend with a mk4 tdi the mounts look similar will they go as a direct swap or can it be made to fit? Looking at sourcing a replacement from a breaking c looks around £100 Mark but the mk 2/3/4 pumps all look very similar. Anyone had any experience with them? Thanks Phil
-
No worries mate gonna try taking it into maplins. If they don't have the exact size I'll try n get something slightly smaller and plastic weld the mounts in the mech to make it fit don't wanna buy a full mech for the sake of a £1 switch if I can help it.
-
Hi all. returning member after the Mrs bought me a new project C for my 30th birthday after having not owned one for 8 years. My rear spoiler is stuck up it will manually lower and I've traced the problem to one of the micro switches in the mech. Can anyone point me to a website where I can order a replacement switch as the originals have no details on them and I'm assuming will now be obsolete and replaced with a newer alternative? Thanks Phil

just adding a remote to the existing central locking system only works from the key in the door at the min theres the obvious halfords remote and reciver kit but didnt know how to connect it is it possible to connect it to the central locking pump or do i have to connect it elsewhere?
