  1. Thanks for the reply.
I have already tested the vss wires - I’m getting a 12v ignition feed and earth on the outer two pins (black/brown).. what I’m missing is a 5v signal from the VSS wire.
I have read on a couple of pages that the 5v reference should be coming from the instrument cluster, not the sensor itself. I’m trying to find out if this is definitely the case. If it is the case, I’m assuming my cluster is faulty.
However, as I said, when an external 5v feed is applied to the VSS wire, the speedo then works- we turned the spare old VSS with a drill to replicate driving.

  2. Hi,

I am trying to ascertain why the speedo isn’t working on my ‘93 Vr6.
Should the instrument cluster be supplying a 5v feed to the vss line?  I’m not getting any 5v feed on the vss (blue/white) wire.
On the outer two pins on the vss plug I have ignition 12v and earth, which is correct, so the problem lies with the 5v feed.
I managed to get the speedo to work by applying an external 5v to the vss wire, but I’d rather replace the cluster if it’s that which is the issue.

  3. Cheers Sean,

Yeah I already have the rears. I had the fronts too, but I let them go with my calipers when I fitted the Brembos. Seriously considering going back to 15s though soon as it always drove better, but will need some decent discs and pads on the 288s.

  4. Hi,

I’m looking for a late front bumper, must be in good condition. Colour unimportant as I will get it painted eventually.

No hurry for it at the moment, I’m just trying to collect parts I’ll need before a respray.

  5. The intermediate shaft snapped on the one in my car and starved it of oil..

I had a spare 2.8 AAA engine from my friends car which was a nice engine, but unfortunately he rolled the car and when I stripped the engine down I found that too had suffered from oil starvation when it was rolled and killed the big ends and scored the crank. So basically I have two engines which have both been ruined due to oil starvation!

I just need a decent bottom end really, I have a good recon head from my engine.

  6. It really was great to drive.. it coped amazingly well with all that grunt to be honest.

The big brakes definitely help when it comes to making progress too!

I can't jack it in at this stage. I had only just started enjoying it really!! Ive got to get it running again, ive just got to save a bit to afford all the parts I'll need first.

  7. holy crap on a stick!

i feel bad for asking now lol

really sorry to hear about such pain!! and so soon after such a big spend :(

pleased for you that you can do the rebuild yourself though as most of us would be looking at another huge bill

    good luck

did you end up strengthening your gearbox internals & LSD it?

Lol, don't feel bad.. leave that to me!

I have almost posted on here a few times since the conversion, before and after the engine failure, but just haven't for one reason or another.

Yeah I'm glad I can rebuild it, but it really is a pain all the same.

The gearbox wasn't strengthened internally, but Vince reckoned it would be fine as it was. It already had a Quaife fitted.

I was really impressed with the way it put all that power through the front wheels, it was great fun. It was running around 380bhp.

  8. Yeah the turbo'ing went well... for a couple of weeks!!!

The car started to not boost quite as it should, so last week I was driving it back to let Vince take a look (nothing major)...

On the m5 on the way up the oil buzzer came on. Got recovered to stealth and basically the oil pump drive shaft decided to randomly snap and destroy my engine!!!

So tomorrow the car is being brought back home and I'm going to have to rebuild the engine again, using a low mileage 2.8 block I had spare. Fun!

It was great while it lasted, very fast indeed and I can't wait until it's running again.

  9. The S2 Avant is much heavier than the Corrado. Mine felt very under braked with a poor pedal feel with the G60's up front. The upgrade to 314mm A8 discs and 996 Brembo monoblocks was night vs day; hence my reluctance to spend on the G60 setup.

Yeah I appreciate the S2 is much heavier.

Sounds like they aren't great from what you've said though. I'm running 996 Brembos with 330mm discs. They haven't been on for long, but feel very strong, as they should.
