Thanks, yep I saw that but it looked very "tight" - more a line from a moulding machine than where it might split, will have another look tomo, cheers !

I wanted to take the near-side door card off but couldn't see how the grab handle comes off... There appears to be a tab at the bottom of it - but it wouldn't prise off (to reveal some screws I'm guessing) Can any1 pls advise...I did try a couple of searches but couldn't see it, sorry !

Hi, I was checking levels etc under the bonnet today and noticed that the brake fluid (I thought) was a little low. I had a little pot of dot4 handy (for my bike) so topped it up from min to max... However, after looking in the manual afterwards I have topped up the PAS reservoir not the brake one...  Not sure quite why I did this, obviously wasn't thinking straight...should have looked in the manual 1st... I did a quick google which indicated the dot4 could turn rubber seals etc hard if u use it instead of Dexron, but it could be used in an emergency... Anyhow, should I drain the PAS fluid out ASAP and put some new "ATF-Dexron" hydraulic fluid in...? How much fluid is there in the PAS system - i.e. is the dilution not too bad as I only added from min to max ? Cheers ! Dan

Cheers for the tips guys...tried a few, another good session with the blowtorch, plus some borrowed (better quality) tools did the trick ! Strangely the other side didnt need any unusual treatment (apart from another mutilated disk fixing screw) and took 30mins... Taking it easy for now but seems to have cleared my vibration problem which is brilliant :x-mas: , and for rather less than the £300 - £360 National tyres wanted (told me to do all 4 disks and pads..) :agrue: -
Hi, Got my pads out in the end, but then couldn't do the above to get the disk off...most annoying. The 2 x 17mm bolts were unbudgeable...tried various spanners and even a longish wheel jack...plus finally a blowtorch till it was red hot... Any other ideas else will prob have to take to a garage. Chrs, Dan

Swapping pads and disks today but found that the fixing screw for the disk has been mutilated by some1...so any suggestions as best way to remove it (and the disk) pls ? Guess will try a chisel etc then drill it out unless any good ideas ?! Cheers, Dan

The near side rear (passenger) cushion (i.e. where u sit on) comes out reasonably easily...should the other side ??! Other side seems more fixed in, and don't want to force it out, the manual (p18) shows the near side one being removed and refers to cushion (not cushions), just wonder if only one side is meant to come out ? Chrs, Dan

Woohoo, I can now get 2nd gear more than one time in 10 ! For my 1989 16v it was part N 012 328 1 - the best 34p+VAT I have spent in a while. (I ordered N 012 3276 as well as I saw that mentioned here, another circlip but smaller) As an aside...if any1 could pls take a more detailed pic of this one I'd be grateful: http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/download.php?id=20705 I'm not sure where the spring in the right picture (to the left of the lever / red circle) should be going exactly...my spring goes under that bit of metal with the hole in it but doesn't appear to have the bit that sits on top... Thanks, Dan

Thanks for the ideas chaps, will report back once have more info (plus the wheel bolt key..) - will also try and get hold of this mechanic that told the previous owner about these "rubber stops".

Hi, couldn't see in a search, but does any1 have any recommended people that can repair the cloth on a drivers seat squab / bolster ? The seat itself seems OK, but the cloth has ripped / torn away. Or do people generally try and find a new seat ?! If anyone has a grey cloth one send me a PM ;-)

Hi, Tried a search but nothing cropped up, so asking here... Under 40 / 50mph it's not really noticeable, but at Mway speeds there is quite a lot of vibration thru the brake pedal and the steering wheel, almost as tho' the wheels are really imbalanced (but only get it under braking). Car had new pads and brakes last year. Jacked it up...calipers didn't appear to be wobbly / loose. Haven't had the wheels off yet as waiting for the locking wheel nut bolt to be posted... Previous owner mentioned this, but not sure what he meant, and he couldn't explain furthur...can probably get hold of the mechanic if needs be: " My mechanic is on holiday, but believes that 2 small rubber stops for the brakes need replacing (cheap & easy) just to remove a slight brake judder (as he did discs last year, so should not be these). " I did notice that when jacked up, the top of the suspension shocks seemed free to move about in the turret, and there were not the bolts (or even holes for bolts) that you normally seem to get on cars in the top mount type area...assuming this is normal ? Any ideas welcome ! Chrs, Dan PS - Presume no ABS on an 1989 16v from reading this forum ?

Picked up my 1st Corrado on Saturday, a 16v, so just introducing myself here ! Have had three VeeDubs'...nice mk1 GTI 1.8 and a couple of Golf VR6's...but always fancied a Corrado - for (amongst lots of other things) it's combination of looks, small size (yet a practical 2+2) and handling (nice and low driving position). I have been a Beemer man for the last few years, but due to a change in circumstances and this one cropping up (from a chap at where I used to work) I have returned to the VW fold ! A guy I used to work with (possibly known on here - kieron - used to have a black VR6) gave me a few pointers and so I went to look at this one and drove it home from Portsmouth... Think mine is pretty much stock, apart from a non-VW exhaust plus the alloys (they were pinched). It seems to sit fairly high - so assuming std shocks and springs. She's a 1989 G, metallic blue, 108k miles and is in pretty good shape for a 16yr old C...needs a little TLC but I can provide that...will hopefully end up a pretty tidy little car. Sunroof, windows, door handles ;-) , mirrors and even the Knight Rider spoiler work... Don't have any decent pics yet, will get some once it's been cleaned... ;-) Cheers, Dan
