Haha, thanks. I already miss the noise of the VR6 but am certainly appreciating the modern quality and convenience of the Golf, especially with auto-lights, rain sensor, cruise control, dimming mirror, dual-zone air-con. It's also a strange adjustment to have such a short rev range. Red line at 4,500 rpm...what?! I'm glad I was adamant about getting one with DSG ;-) Anyway, the VR6 is now at its new home in Durham and won't be back on the road until next year while the new owner works on it as his new project. I did mention this forum to him so perhaps the car will make another appearance here in the future sometime.

So, the day finally came and my Corrado has been sold. Sad to see it go in the end but I'm extremely happy with the MkV Golf GT we've just picked up! Off it goes, bye bye....

VR6 | Classic Green | Mellor (near Blackburn) Price: SOLD Description: Hi all, time for a bank holiday special offer ;-) I have been looking to sell my Corrado VR6 but recently encountered a problem where it cut out and wouldn't restart. While this is probably something that can be fixed quite easily, a combination of factors has put it some way down my list of priorities at the moment. Firstly the car is currently at my mum's house in Mellor and I have struggled to find time to get down from Lancaster to work on it due to job change-over, first-time house buying and another addition to our family on the way! As a result I thought I might post it up here in the hope of a quick sale to someone who can take care of the car and simultaneously help me with costs towards moving home. So, the car is a '95 N-reg Corrado VR6 manual in Classic Green with 125,000 miles on the clock, MOT until March 2014 and taxed until end Feb 2014. It's a good car with a lot of features and would provide a good base for someone on here to continue as a nice little project. The Good: 17" ABT A11 alloy wheels Full black leather interior in excellent condition, ABT Nardi steering wheel & gear knob Full closure Cat 1 alarm Working sunroof (tilts & slides) & fully working spoiler Upper and lower front anti-roll bars, lower rear anti-roll bar Schrick 268 cams Programmable wiper relay, original hazard warning triangle. Recent Work: Gearbox rebuild & new clutch Reconditioned cylinder head, new head gasket, 8 new valves & all valve stem seals New timing chains, tensioners & guide rails Cylinders re-honed & new piston rings Bottom end rebuild, crankshaft polished Oil pump rebuild, new water pump, new battery The Bad: Previous Cat-C accident damage but repaired and on the road for 12 years. Noisy tappets (unfortunately not replaced in the rebuild). Bodywork is decent but has a few areas where the paint finish could be better. Some rust showing on the OSR arch and under the outer skin of drivers door. Intermittent ABS fault light - ABS does work when the light goes out. OSF CV joint knocks on full lock. During my ownership I have had some misfortune with this car (failure of the gearbox closely followed by the timing chain tensioner) which has led me to having had quite a lot of work done as you can see above. Of course my misfortune is to the advantage of the new owner as I have done nearly everything you would typically worry about on a Corrado VR6. Since the engine and gearbox were sorted I have had no major trouble (until this cut-out problem) and the car usually runs well even managing 35mpg on long cruises! It will be a shame to see the car go after putting so much into repairs but I am struggling to find time for it at the moment and I hope it can go to someone who will take care of it and keep the progress going in the right direction. For any more info or questions please call or text on 07708 526638 or PM me here on the forum. Thanks for looking, Mik

Having trouble getting hold of a crank sensor (partly because the shop who had one for me to collect today is now strangely closed for a week instead). Anyway, in the meantime I have tried to find some info on testing the sensor and apparently they should give a resistance of 500-700 ohms between two sensor pins and at ECU pins 67 & 68, mine reads ~535 ohms at each so it seems to be OK. Not sure if I have a factory immobiliser, where is it located?
-
Yeah, checked the main round connector and that looked good, nice and clean etc. Not tried the ECU relay actually, that's worth a look. Not moved the relay panel but I did have a look around for any loose connections or earth wires etc. after the problem. Would the crank sensor prevent the engine from firing at all or just make it run poorly

Hi all, after having quite a long run of trouble free motoring my VR6 decided it didn't want to go to Tatton Park on Sunday where I was ironically going to put it up for sale. Initially it was hesitant on the motorway and then, after stopping for fuel at Preston, the engine started up fine but immediately cut out like turning off a switch. This occurred maybe ten times and even revving the engine up would not prevent the cut out. Eventually it stayed running but with an extremely erratic idle so I decided to make the short dash to my mum's house nearby to investigate. By then the engine really struggled to pick up revs and continued to idle poorly so I shut it off and disconnected the battery for a while in case the ECU was somehow confused. From then on it would not start at all; the starter motor turns but there is no attempt to fire. You can hear the fuel pump running and by-passing the relay made no difference so we called the RAC out, then started some strange behaviour. Firstly, the car locked itself (full closure alarm & immobiliser) with the keys in the ignition! Then, after recovering the keys, the engine started but again struggled to idle with the revs bouncing and occasionally sitting steady at nearly 2,000 rpm. The OBD report threw up a host of faults, some of which were dubious at best, e.g. cannot communicate with the automatic transmission (well no, it's a manual gearbox) and Hall sensor failure (isn't this to do with the distributer? This engine has a coil pack...). Also, while the ignition was on and engine not running, some relays were sporadically clicking and the ABS relay would occasionally go berserk for a few seconds at a time. After a while the engine cut out again, repeated for a few restarts and then returned to not starting at all and refused to communicate through the OBD port. I was left quite demoralised and without an answer other than possibly "significant wiring problems or faulty ECU" so I'm not sure where to go. There's fuel and spark as evident by the odd bout of starting and while things like the ISV, MAF & crank sensor could explain the rough idle, would they prevent the engine from starting all together? The immobiliser could be a factor, especially considering how the car randomly locked itself, or just a bad earth somewhere?

Don't want to sound desperate but I would really like to get this car sold sometime soon. If anyone is at all interested please let me know. Alternately I might have to consider selling some bits like the wheels, interior, steering wheel separately and letting the car go somewhere cheaply.
-
Haha, you make a compelling arguement although I think some of it may not quite turn out to be totally realistic ;-) If I had a garage to keep a car as SORN I might have kept it but unfortunately its just a driveway. Maybe you could buy it from me and sell it back me if I want another in the future :-P

My Corrado is indeed for sale now and I have actually just dropped the price to £2,000 o.n.o. :( Please take a look at my ad HERE if you might be interested. It has to go and the sooner the better really as baby is well on the way! I would like to see it go to a good home and am prepared to negotiate a deal rather than see it traded in to go to auction.

Corrados In A Different Light - [Creative Pictures]

The wheels are 17" ABT A11's, there's more about the car in the link in my signature but I didn't intend to put the spotlight on it in this topic :) -

I might just have to have it printed then....T-Shirt anyone? lol! ;) Look forward to seeing what else comes up here -
I have just been playing around with the post processing of some recent pictures I have of the Corrado and I ended up trying something fairly abstract, the result being poster-like image you can see below. I quite like it personally and this got me thinking about what other creative images people may have made of their Corrados. There's lots of normal photographs on here so let's have a thread to show off something a little different :) Mik

VR6 | Classic Green | Lancaster Price: £2000 o.n.o. Description: I have decided it is time to sell my Corrado after just over two years of ownership due to having a baby on the way and us deciding to replace both this and our MkIV Golf with a new Polo GTi. The car is a '95 N-reg Corrado VR6 manual in Classic Green with 123,000 miles on the clock, MOT until March 2013 and taxed until end Feb 2013. It's a good car with a lot of features and would provide a good base for someone on here to continue as a nice little project. The Good: Full black leather interior in excellent condition, full closure Cat 1 alarm, working sunroof (tilts & slides), fully working spoiler, programmable wiper relay, original hazard warning triangle. 17" ABT A11 alloy wheels, leather ABT Nardi steering wheel, aluminium ABT gear knob, ABT engine cover badge. Upper and lower front anti-roll bars, lower rear anti-roll bar, H&R Coilovers. Schrick 268 cams, big bore throttle body. The Bad: Previous accident damage but repaired and been on the road for over 11 years. Slightly noisy tappets when cold (unfortunately these were not replaced in the rebuild) Bodywork is generally good but has a few areas where the paint finish could be better and there is a little rust starting to show on the OSR arch and under the outer skin of the drivers door. Intermittent ABS fault light - seems to be dodgy connection as the ABS does work when the light goes out. OSF CV joint knocks occasionally on full lock. Throttle cable stiff. During my ownership I have had some misfortune with this car (failure of the gearbox closely followed by the timing chain tensioner) which has led me to having had quite a lot of work done. Of course my misfortune is to the advantage of the new owner as I have done nearly everything you would typically worry about on a Corrado VR6. These jobs include: Reconditioned cylinder head, 8 new valves. New timing chains & tensioners. Cylinders re-honed, new piston rings. Bottom end rebuild, crank shaft polished. Oil pump rebuild, new water pump. Gearbox rebuild & new clutch. Since the engine and gearbox were sorted I have had no major trouble (thankfully) and the car runs well even managing 35mpg on long cruises! It will be a shame to see the car go after putting so much into repairs but it makes sense for us at this time to give into something more modern and economical. I'd like a quick sale so we can get things moving on the new car but would also like to see it go to someone who will take care of the car and keep the progress going in the right direction. I'm aware that previous accident damage detracts from the value of any car so I have tried to put a price on this which reflects that as well as the extent of the work which has already been done and the existing feature list, therefore I'm looking for £2,000 o.n.o. For any more info or questions please call or text on 07708 526638 or PM me here on the forum. Thanks for looking, Mik

It's certainly a tough decision having put so much money into the car and as much as I'm proud to be seen with a Corrado, I really am drawn to that new Polo GTi which, given it's scarcity, has arguably as much street-cred at the moment. Luckily we have no immediate need for two cars as I walk to work and I'm sure in 5 - 6 years there would be some interesting options ;-) Do you think something like £2250 sounds a fair asking price? I'm aware that old accident damage always impacts the value so I want to try balance that with the work that has been done and the equipment spec that the car has.
