I'd take it out mate as its filthy. Did you not find the exhaust pops with the K&N in?
-
There are so many different things that could be the cause though. For example the budget tyres probably could be meaning you lose some MPG. Good thinking about replacing the air box. Although the AFM etc is after the drilled area there is a feed from the manifold (I think?) to the underside of the box. This could mean its not getting the warm air off the engine that it needs when its cold. I was shocked at how complex that airbox setup was. I replaced all the service items apart from the fuel filter and ignition leads. Now I dont think the fuel filter would be a problem, but the ignition leads could prove to be an issue at high revs maybe? Might be worth changing those. I would have done, but they were like £45 and as the car wasn't misfiring or anything it wasn't worth it. Also I think it might have revved better top end with the K&N in? It certainly felt more responsive. The filter was really dirty though so maybe try giving it a clean.

As I said when you bought it mate my advice would be to get the fuelling/ignition timing checked out. I think thats the way to ensure you get maximum mpg out of one of these old engine's. It wasn't worth me spending the money getting it done as I only do 3 miles each way to work. It would be worth an hour's labour to you though I'm sure. As for not red lining in 4th gear I honestly never noticed that - surely you would have to be in to 3 figures to see that many revs with the gearing on that car?!... I know it redlines in 1/2 gear, but I probably never even redlined 3rd. As I said I never really gelled with the car and hence I didn't push it as hard as I might have done. With it being such a long throw gear change I just found there was no pleasure in revving the nuts off of it and slamming the next gear in. I'd say its more of a cruiser. I think the colour might be called midnight blue.... ;-)

Well it doesn't sound like there will be a cheap fix for this or something that I can do myself. I'm not so sure its worth me paying out to get it tuned up as it seems to run OK. I did see a black Corrado this evening in Stafford just after 5pm. Looked to be a 16v and fairly standard....

Nobody done this before? Is mine the only car thats rusty on the rear quarter then?.....
-
I've only recently bought the car. I'm up the north end on Holmcroft. I work on Cannock road and to be honest I only drive the car to work and back as its not my main car so you wont see it about much. I have replaced the plugs and dizzy cap and rotor arm this weekend. The car seems to run a bit better. Its still a lazy starter from cold though.... A couple of the plugs were quite black. The tailpipe is quite black also (but then they do that dont they). However the exhaust does pop when you back off the throttle sharplyd so it could well be running rich.

Mine is looking pretty bad. Can anyone tell me where I could get a new panel from please? I guess its either that or I get someone to cut it out of a car that is being broken for spares.
-
Ok thanks guys. My plugs are indeed black as I checked them the other day and am going to replace them this weekend. Not sure about the tailpipe as its a big bore with a black insert (if you see what I mean). I'd expect 25ish around town and 30+ on a run. The reason I noticed is that the fuel gauge has dropped from just under 3/4 to a 1/4 in the past week. Its only done about 60 miles!

I have never owned such a thirsty car! The trip computer showed 16.9mpg on my journey to work. Its struggled to get in to the early 20's on a long run (cruising at 70mph). My mates 911 does better mpg! Is this normal? I wouldn't mind so much if it was the VR6 model, but this seems a bit silly. The car has obviously been messed with over the years as it has a loud exhaust and a K&N. Its lacking in low down torque - maybe its had a cam change?.... Seems to pull quite well at the top end. What do other 16v owners get?
-
Thanks, but its snapped off! The cloth and foam are still spot on.
-
I have done a quick search, but cant seem to find another thread on this. My drivers seat bolster has broken. It is loose. The fabric is still spot on so I would ideally like to repair the seat rather than replace it. Can anyone help with this please? I'm open to idea's along the lines of drill a hole and bolt it back up if needs be. I'm just after some more idea's before I start ripping it apart. Thanks

Actually it seems to be locking fine now. The knob came off in my hand! LOL So I'm thinking it was resistance on the knob which meant that it wouldn't lock and hence the locking pump was making a noise. I cant hear it now. Problem solved for now. Will have to wait until I can be arsed to get the door trim off and have a look. Thanks for your replies.

Will look at the pump then thanks. At first I thought it was the petrol cap lock, but then I realised thats not on the central locking! I'd bloody hope my mate has connected the central locking wire up as he used to work at VW! :-D

Hi I noticed last night when I locked my car that there is a whirring noise which is quite loud. It seems to be coming from the drivers side rear quarter. I tried locking and unlocking the car a few times and it eventually stopped a minute or so later. I also noticed that the drivers door didn't lock so I used the key (it has an autowatch alarm that locks the car). One other thing I should say is that the door handle has been replaced the other day. Any advice would be great please.

I meant in terms of steering/turn in not ride quality. Interesting you should say that you noticed a difference though. It might be worth it if the car ends up feeling very stiff. In hindsight I wish I had tried one on my 205 Mi16 as that really seemed to suffer with stiff suspension (it was that stiff you could put all your weight on the front end and the car only dipped about 1cm!). Thanks for your advice
