  1. when I said k&n style filter I didn't mean to replace your current panel filter with a k&n panel filter as that I would of thought wouldn't make any difference, I should of said cone filter http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RAMAIR-UNIVERSAL-INDUCTION-AIR-FILTER-VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-VR6-/390488499892?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5aeaeda6b4

ebay search vr6 cone filter , you can pick them up for as little as a tenner , just to try them out before commiting to a better quality one, if I remember rightly even with a cone filter it still doesn't give the VR purr under light throttle , its only when you hoof it, so changing to a cone would probably just enhance the sound your already getting, idd say if your not happy with that then look more towards the exhaust side,

Yeah cheers for that but if I totally change airbox/filter i'd go for a bmc as from what I understand k&n cones suck in too much hot air and even if you put in another air feed they still don't give out any more power. All that's a long way down the list at mo anyway! Having driven for a couple of days without the snorkel i haven't noticed a loss of torque/responsiveness low down the revs just a slight loss of the silky smooth delivery at low revs - only really noticeable when going from 1st to 2nd gear in traffic etc. If the engine is robbed of torque for the 1st couple of thousand rpm's then it could only be a couple of lbs/ft or so at the most.

  2. After searching a bit more on the forum I stumbled across several posts suggesting the removal of the airbox snorkel as a quick/cheap way of beefing up the Vr6 sound (one of jim's posts put me on the scent)! Having now done so I would recommend it as it's exactly what I was after sound-wise. Why didn't anyone think to suggest this straight away! ;). Over 3.5k rpm it now howls/growls nicely under hard acceleration but still sounds standard with light throttle inputs. Still mulling over k&n panel filter. What puts me off is they sound like they are really low density compared to original paper filters so wont keep out ALL the c*#p etc. I'm not overly OCD or anything but I'd like to put off the inevitable rebuild for as long as possible! Also do they really go 50k miles before they need a clean?

  3. Cheers for all the interesting ideas/feedback. I've been mulling over a k&n filter for literally years but never bothered as I'd heard mixed reviews. I'll give one a go tho if some of you say they make a noticeable difference. In regards to 263 cams i'd say it's fairly unlikely these were fitted at any time since as I understand it the previous owner was a real stickler for standard and he owned the car for 11 years. Out of interest what difference in power delivery do they make? Everyone has their own way of bettering power delivery/output/torque which they swear to as being the best way of going about it! I'd like to give the engine some serious tlc soonish as its on 143k at mo and that goes up by 12.5k per year as its my daily. When it goes in for a play I wouldn't mind a bit more power or a better torque spread for as little money as possible (probably rules out 263's).

  4. Was wondering if anyone would know why my VR6 (owned for 4 years and 40,000 miles) has never sounded like a VR6? Sounds strange but listening to others in real life and on youtube etc. they all have that audi quattro meets chewbacca exhaust note but mine sounds like most other V6's. It still sounds quite good especially over 3500 rpm but never the same warble like others do. It is totally standard but I dont have any paperwork for before I owned the car as I bought it from a dealer via ebay (car was discussed on this forum at the time - Vr6 on ebay - Anyone know this car?). Previous owner was a guy called Harry Vick who was a corrado club member. Its never bothered me too much but i thought I might as well ask to see if anyone could come up with a reason for it?

  5. Hi all. I need some advice please.

    I have a 93 VR6.

Last weekend after a 15 mile run to Bury St Edmunds I noticed my fans where on full blast as I parked. The radiator was cold but the temp gauge was reading higher than usual.

An hour later I checked the water level before going home & it was fine. During the journey the water level light came on & before I could pull off the A14 the car filled with steam. I stopped immediately. Got recovered by police & RAC.

The garage said my heater matrix had gone. A soaking wet carpet confirmed it to me.

A new matrix was fitted but the mechanic said the fans were only coming on after the car was switched off. He suspected an air lock and told me to run it with the cap off for a minute after I got home. I did this and then took it out for a drive.

A couple of miles up the road it started to overheat again. I pulled over and noticed a crack in the side of the expansion tank as steam was coming out under pressure. Limped home pretty ****ed off.

The heating works in the car, all the hoses seem to be getting hot but the radiator is cold.

I am wondering if a blockage in the rad has caused the pressure to get so high as to 1st blow the heater matrix & now thats fixed, the expansion tank. Could this be right or could it have been the expansion tank all along or something else?

I hope someone can help. Cheers.

Hi I live near Stowmarket and was also driving back from Bury in my Vr6 yesterday when I had to pull into a layby after my cooloant temp suddenly shot up over 110 and the light came on. Plenty of coolant, fans working. Trucks passing 2 ft away so didn't fancy fiddling under bonnet for any more clues. Recovered via Rac (90 mins later) and now sat at home waiting for diagnosis. What was the issue with yours in the end? Also which mechanics do you use as the one I use owns a Vr6 himself?

  6. Awesome, always good when you spot a fellow member on here :) Whereabouts are you based, Colchester?

The white one is owned by a guy who is also on here :) He works at the Shell Garage and it's running a 1.8T. The yellow one is also a car I see regularly, I don't know him personally but he's a friend of a friend of a friend.

I live out in the sticks, just outside a village called Boxford. Yeah i've seen shell garage guy before but not for a while now. Taking the rado to mechanics next week to get new rear shocks replaced as near side has given up. Feeling pretty confident of a good job being done as the mechanic in question owns a vr6 for track days!

  7. My first spot in the new VR6 :)

Spotted a blackberry VR6 at Newton Green, Suffolk at 6:40pm today. I gave a little wave and the guy flashed his lights :)

That'll be me. we were a few miles from home having enjoyed a nice long run back from centre parks. Had an awesome journey from Bury st.edmunds to sudbury as we were followed by an F430 - we only managed to blast past 3 cars on the overtake though due to the crippling speed limits and lack of passing spots. How many other corrados have you spotted in the area? I've seen a dark red G60, a modded white valver ( both in sudbury) and a modded yellow one only once on the back roads out of sudbury.

  9. The friend (Harry) traded it in. Got fed up with the Corrado, mainly due to back ache. It was traded in thro' a Suzuki garage for a Swift. So it must have been picked up at an auction. Nothing wrong with it other than what you see as you view it. I remember the Solitudes being added about 11 years ago. The guy was not one for changing it so it will be pretty much standard.

    .

Cheers for that. The guy I bought it off said your friend traded it in for 2 swifts for him and his wife! Apart from the wheels it has a stainless exhaust (no idea what it is though) which seems to make the engine note a bit quieter than standard. Only thing which annoys a bit is I forgot to check the stereo and it doesn't work - the red light isn't flashing when the fascia is removed so I don't know if it just needs reconnecting or not? I just wish I'd bought it in summer!

  10. Yes, know the car and previous owner. Looked after. Northwest Corrado.

Its not had a hard life.

Good buy. But check it out by viewing.

Solitudes were not an option at the time of the original purchase.

Hi, just joined forum and believe it or not i bought the car in question last saturday. Looks like its been really well looked after (before Harry it was owned by a doctor for 4 years). You said you worked on the car? What work was carried out by you? Hardly got any paper work with the car but having driven it and given it a good lookover decided it was worth a small risk. M.O.T had 3 advisories on it :small oil leak(not yet traced), slight wear to rear disc and slight corrosion to subframes?! Going to my mechanic tomorrow to get it on ramps for a good look. How did he manage to keep the interior/exterior in such good condition? Really pleased with the car so far...
