This brilliant oddity came about when the German manufacturer commissioned a firm called Marold Automobili GmbH to turn the Corrado coupe into a shooting brake, and it proceeded to create two gloriously boxy prototypes. Both were built with the supercharged ‘G60’ four-cylinder engine, giving 158bhp and a 0-60mph time of just over eight seconds. The plan was to follow these two up with a limited production run, something that never happened.

Happily, the pair of prototypes weren’t just stuffed into the corner of a museum, and both have just come up for sale via Long Island dealer Lux Sport. Both are wearing Borbet rims, one with five spoke examples, and the other with a more BBS-style look. The former car is showing 13,000 kilometres on the clock, and the latter just 8000.
