Seen a dark green C today (unsure of flavour) at the Feeder/St Anne's/Newbridge Road traffic lights in Bristol. Flashed and exchanged waves and thumbs!
-
Spotted a white 16v H*** RAW heading north on the M4/M5 slip road this morning.

Think that was me was me if it was last Monday, were you in a black Ibiza? First spot on here I think if so[/quote:3rhz00iu] Spooky, I was on the M5 on Monday in my matt black H reg Corrado! And it's very low![/quote:3rhz00iu] Sorry only one spot, not sure who it was. But looking at james_c2 gallary I think it might have been him, although it might have had different wheels. Its difficult to take it all in when trying to match speed at 80 :nono:

Thanks Matt for the tip on Adrian Flux, they can do me laid up insurance at about £92 for the year! :D Also got a much cheaper quote for the Seat oil burner I'm getting. Happy days.

Sounds like a limited mileage policy is the way to go then. Do you mind me asking who you're with at the moment? Do you have a 2nd daily driver car? How have you got on with using your no claims across multiple policies?
-
Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone else on here has 'laid up' or just fire and theft insurance? I'm changing jobs in the next few weeks and I'm going to be doing quite a lot of miles so obviously having a thirsty VR isn't the greatest daily drivers. I don't want to sell the Corrado, so was looking to insure it just for fire and theft for the time being. Can anyone suggest an insurance company that will do this? Or if anyone else is currently doing this and how much they pay? I’m currently with Direct Line, they will offer me this service but can’t tell me how much it will cost! The cheapest quote I've had elsewhere is £950 which is about £400 more than I pay for full comp at the moment!!! I thought about classic car insurance but most places say that the car has to be over 15 years old and with mine being a 95 I’m 2 years out. Any information would be great. Thanks

I got a 75ah Bosch Silver battery from GSF, was about £75. Fits perfecty in my VR. Wish I had known that Costco had sold them tho!
-
I've also got the same problem although my coolant temp doesn’t exceed 110°c and the coolant light doesn't come on. But my oil temperature can hit 140°c. I noticed the other day when checking my levels that there was coolant on the outside of the expansion bottle, it was on the middle rim. I was a little confused as to where this had come from as the cap was on so tight I had to tap it with a hammer to loosen it.

Hi, forgot to post back when I had sorted my battery situation out. I went to GSF to get a battery, indeed they didn't have a Bosch 74ah battery and they looked it up the Bosch catalogue and said that they didn't make one??? Anyway I said that I'd just go for the 72ah. When they brought it out it was in fact a 75ah battery. I thought this was no way going to fit as all the posts said that the 74ah only just fit with a squeeze. I know that the ah of a battery doesn't determine the physical size but any way. But the 75ah Bosch Silver battery fit in just fine, it was exactly the same size at the dud 60ah I was taking out. Hope this helps anyone wondering what’s the biggest battery u can get in a VR.

Hi, I've just called my local GSF in Trafford Park to get a price on the Bosch Silver 74ah battery. They've told me that Bosch don't do a 74ah, the nearest is a 72 or an 80. I'm guessing that the 80 will be far to big to fit in my VR6 so I probably need the 72ah, does anyone know if this fits? Just in case for some bizarre reason the 72ah would be bigger than the "none existing" 74ah battery. They also said that they have a GSF branded 74ah battery, I’m just wondering if they were trying to flog me their own brand rather that the Bosch. Thanks

Does anyone know if there are part numbers stamped or etched on the inside of the bumper to help identify if the bumper is early or late.
-
Thanks for the info. What year did the bumper size change?
-
Just slap me if I'm being stupid. Is the rear bumper on the Storm the same as other C's regardless of age? Mine has a bit of a crease on it  and was looking at a few that are listed on eBay, unless any one else knows of a more local source. Thanks

Horrible Noise from my VR
Republic Of Mancunia replied to Republic Of Mancunia's topic in Engine Bay
The water temperature is between 95ºc and 100ºc, some time going up to 110 ºc ish when sat in traffic. This is the normal temp not seen any changes in this since I've had the car in over 2 years. -
Horrible Noise from my VR
Republic Of Mancunia replied to Republic Of Mancunia's topic in Engine Bay
Thanks for the replies, I had a new belt on the tensioner a couple of months ago, but I suppose it could be the tensioner has had it now. I probably could get to Stoke, but I don't know if I should be driving it. Is PSI Tuning run by Andy that used to work at Awesome? -
Hi all, I’m after a little bit of advice just to make sure that I’m not going to be ripped off by a garage. Over last week my VR’s oil temperature has been quite high, in the region of 115ºc. On Saturday I started it up and let it idle for a minute to get it warmed up. After about 30 seconds there was a strange noise coming from the engine. I had to be somewhere so I drove very cautiously down the motorway only about 10 miles. I could no longer hear the noise whilst moving. When I arrived at my destination and came to a stop the noise was still there and louder than before, my oil temperature was about 128ºc. I popped the bonnet and the noise was coming from the offside, near the air filter. Its quite difficult to explain the noise but it’s a sort of horrible metallic scraping noise that happens about every 2 to 3 seconds. I don’t think its coming from the engine block itself its sounds more like an ancillary. I’d really like to know, what is on that side of the engine and any probable cause for this noise and high oil temperature or are they one in the same? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I've got a couple of problems with my VR and hope someone can point me in the right direction. Recently I fitted a new Alpine stereo to the car, whilst doing this I inadvertently ran the battery down to the extent that it wouldn't start. After a good few hours on charge it started fine and I took it out for a good long run. A few days later I noticed....... Problem 1 My spoiler isn't going up all the way when I hit 60. It is only going up 1/2 of the way and doesn't return properly when I come to a stop. When I use the button on the dash it takes 4 or 5 attempts to get it to go up all the way and the same to put it down. Problem 2 When I started the car yesterday my ABS light came on and stayed on. I tested the brakes and it skidded. Tried again and forgot to put my foot on the clutch so the car stalled. When I restarted it the ABS light went off, tried the brakes again and the ABS kicked in. Happy Days...... or so I thought. Went out in it again today and the ABS light is back on and no ABS. Have I done something dodgy with the wiring? Or fried something when it was on charge? Or is this just a coincidence? Is there anything I can check before I take it to a garage and for them to turn around and say 2k please!!!

I've checked the earth strap. It is connected but is a bit green, so is probably worth changing. I've had no lead up to this is it likely just to stop working?
-
Sorry for creating yet another post about starting problems but I can’t find any other post for a similar problem. I backed my car out of the garage today, stopped it and left it on the drive. When I came to put it back in the garage a few hours later it wouldn't start  I just get a loud click, from what sounds like the solenoid or starter motor, when I try to start. I managed to push start it and took it out for a good run but still got the same problem when I tried to start it again. It’s a 95 VR6 on about 95k, it has a Clifford Concept 600 alarm fitted. I've just had a new clutch and timing chains. Is there anything is can do to try to diagnose the problem? Or do I just need to take garage to diagnose or get some one to look at my alarm?

I went for the Alpine CDA-9833R head this is the 2nd to top of the range head that Alpine currently do. I bought this for about £320 off an internet audio web site. This retails at about £450-£500 so I though I'd got my self a bargain, but then I discovered a place not to far away http://www.mega-watt.co.uk do it even cheaper. They do quality stuff, give em a ring, the blokes there are sound, excuse the pun, and they’ll be able to point you in the right direction. Dunno if they'll do mail order tho. I ended up disconnecting the rear speakers and the ones in the dash, just a quality set in the doors.

I replaced mine about 6 months ago with a set of Sony’s in the dash and in the door pods. They were miles better than the standard ones. Recently I upgraded the ones in the door pods with Focal's and disconnected the ones in the dash. These are the best speakers I have ever heard, they cost about £80 which is around £20 less than you'd pay for a set of Infinity. I put some Dynomat on the inside of the door skin which has made the sound quality even better, plus drowns out some of the road noise, thankfully without spoiling the roar of the VR. :D

Thanks for the advice. I took it a local VW specialist at the weekend they said that it is the clutch and that I’ve just noticed it early. They advised me that I should get the timing chain changed at the same time because the gearbox would have to come out again if I were to have them replaced. The timing chains aren't making a noise but my VR has done about 95k, do you think I should get it done or are they just trying to rip me off?
