  1. Thanks guys for all tha advice. I pulled out two immobilisers and an alarm and the car has been fine ever since. Seemed whoever fitted the last immobiliser piggy-backed the original, causing the whole system to fail. Fixed now anyhow
  2. My wife has finally decided she wishes to stray from the great VW scene, and buy a Scooby  She currently has a 1991(J) 1.8 16v Corrado with 92k (FSH). It has 17" BK299's with Toyo Proxes, excellent unmarked grey interior and very good metallic blue body. Everything works, it will have 12 months MoT, 2 months Tax. It has recently had new cross drilled Bremsport discs fitted. The engine has no rattles at all, and pulls very well. It also has a Kenwood mask CD player fitted. Can anyone give me an idea as to what she should be aiming to get for this? Thanks all
  3. Could be an earting problem I guess. My fuel pump is getting noisier and noiser. Do you think that could have an electrical fault. Does it have an electric motor?
  4. OK, here goes my two pennies. GSF do the ignition switch for a tenner, and its definately not a 30 minute job, as you have to remove the steering lock mechanism from the steering column in order to gain access to the tiny screw that holds the switch in situ (steering lock should be bolted to the column with shear bolts, so you have to drill the heads off). Anyway, I changed mine last Thursday because my car cut out in the same way - lost all power and came (eventually) to a grinding halt. Having changed the switch I was satisfied that I had resolved the matter, but it cut out on me again today  When I tried to restart the car absolutely nothing happened, in fact I couldn't even get the windows to operate. After about 10 attempts the lights on the dash lit up, the fuel pump powered up and weh hey!, all is well. Does anyone have an idea as to what the next thing is I should be checking? :?:
  5. Uh Oh....real wife just read this over my shoulder
  6. Sorry K....didn't mean to offend anyone with a picture of my wife  :D :D :D
  7. Could be an effective way of lowering the car
  8. Here you go guys, got both sides painted in the end - 50 dents had to be sorted!! Still got to lower it though.

    bk299 wheels!

Yeah there are too many around, but that's because they are a very good wheel. My wife's car has them - yes alright I know it needs lowering (haven't got round to it yet).
  10. The oil cooler is about £35 plus VAT at German & Swedish. I've replaced them on both my VW's. Big problems if the burst because the water and oil mix and go right through the car's plumbing (trust me, it's happened to me!)
  11. Hey Guys! I drive a Corrado (and I'm female). And no, my wheel rims aren't ruined. Claire
  12. Well, he didn't take the windows out because he was worried about the rear quarters being bonded in. Did a very good job of masking though. I'd give it 8. Paint finish is perfect, and they have their own oven. The quote you got is pretty reasonable at non-mates'-rates. I don't think the guys where I got mine done will quote you massively under that.
  13. By the way, that £700 included two roof strips from VAG!
  14. LOL, no, it's a friend of a friend. He had some spare time on his hands before he went skiing, so he did it for that price - including paint. No I'm not sleeping with him....and no I didn't flirt, my husband dealt with it :)
  15. A place called Silchester Motors in Hampshire - deal mostly in Porsches & Ferrari's. Did it as a favour for £700 including prep and dent filling. Beautiful job.
  16. Hi guys, what do you reckon?....could do with lowering mind. Not sure which kit to use. Any ideas?
  17. I've just been told that to fit an intellistart to G4 security you need a laptop and wizard software. Is this true or can I get any old auto electrician to fit it?
  18. If anyone wants to do it and they can collect, I was going to put my set on Ebay (slam panel, two headlights / bulbs, 3-bar badgeless grill and PVC grill spoiler (all in excellent condition)). The lot for £55. Email mailto:[email protected] (Hampshire)
  19. mmm. I here what you're saying, but a plastic ring with an O/D or 60mm and an I/D of 57mm!!! I think I could have problems there. :?
  20. Fancying a change from quality german engineering, I have purchased a poor piece of french engineering (don't ask), a Renault 19 16v. My wife has taken some OZ alloys off her Corrado 'cos they weren't big enough for her (keep your dirty jokes to yourselves please), and I wonder whether they would fit the Renault. The PCD and offset are the same, but the counterbore is 3mm different in size (VW wheels having the larger counterbore). Do you think this will make much difference regarding safety? The other question I have is, does anyone know where I can get alloy wheels painted a different colour in the South (I don't want them peeling after 6 months). Cheers all
  21. OK, I've replaced the door solenoid, but this has not worked. Any ideas folks, I'm getting desperate
  22. Try a new drivers side solenoid. About £35 from VAG
  23. Steve&Claire

    Door Handle

GSF sell them for £60 + VAT
  24. Oh dear, they're not cheap either. I have a couple of spares, but I'm keeping them just in case. 8)
  25. I took my drivers door solenoid apart today (I had to virtually destroy it, as they are not serviceable). The switch shouldn't be a problem for anyone, but I found the four terminals leading to it were badly corroded. To dismantle it you need to withdraw the plunger and cut the bridgeing terminals from the solenoid to the switch (these can be soldered back in place afterwards). A bid of a clean, and lots of araldite to build the housing back up after I cut it in half with a bandsaw  and it's working fine now. I dread to think what a replacement costs. By the way, if you try to get a secondhand one, make sure it comes from the same era vehicle you are putting it in. I have a 91 C, and bought a solenoid from a 95 C, and it was different. Couldn't use it :( Hope this helps
